My first memory with reading involves listening to my mom as she read to me before bed. A book that resonates with me when I think back to these times is, The Giving Tree with its bright green cover that stuck out of my shelves when I would chose a book for my mom to read to me every night.

After reading books like The Tale of Emily Windsnap and other series, the first book that was school required to read in class was the Outsiders. I actually found this book very interesting and enjoyed the close reading I did in middle school when analyzing it.

I noticed that as I approached the high school level, school required students to focus on much heavier topics and different styles of writing. The Crucible was the first play that I had to act out in high school which is how it became so memorable. Although the Crucible was not my favorite to read, I enjoyed how it connected to my history classes and was a play on fiction and nonfiction.

Once I started middle school and high school, I stopped reading for enjoyment like I used to when I was much younger. Colleen Hoover books helped me get back into reading as a high schooler.

Reading Mentor: My Mom

When I look back on these early times of my life, I think about how my mom has pushed me to read in order to better myself and my mind but also how she read books like The Giving Tree with such a strong message that bettered my character. I believe the theme of The Giving Tree is to love someone unconditionally no matter what and I feel as if I have carried that with me my entire life.

AP Literature gave me as a reader as a chance to pick a book that I am interested in. Pride and Prejudice is a classic romance novel that I have always wanted to read which is why I picked this for my Senior Year Book Choice.

Biggest Reading Challenge

My biggest Reading challenge is that I take big breaks between consistently reading and not reading at all. Over the summer is where I read the most but I take a big break over the school year.

Favorite Thing About Reading

My favorite thing about reading is how calming it can be. Life can be very intense at times and slowing down and bringing focus into a good book can distract me for a moment which can be calming.

Reading Goals
