At first, my main question was "What and how does the DoK work?" I had no clue, even after researching and reading I was still sort of confused. I only realized after you made comments on my building blocks that I was not processing the research information correctly. I found that my DoK levels did not match the activities within the standard. I was grateful for your comments which helped me realize what I was doing wrong.

Planning and Teaching lessons-AH HA moment

One ah ha moment I had was when I finally figured out what the DoK levels meant. I am a first year teacher who was thrown into a classroom a week after being hired. I haven't had the most support and help when it comes to having questions answered. I really like that this class has helped answer many questions I have had that no one would answer. I have also realized that teaching is not easy. On top of my first year teaching, I am teaching an inclusion classroom. It has been very difficult, but by doing the Lesson Plan assignments, I figured out many different ways to incorporate resource learning within my lessons.

By taking this course, I have learned that I need to be more aware of each student during phonics time. I have an inclusion classroom of 1st graders. I have a few students who still cannot process letter recognition and or letter sounds. This is a process that I have to make sure that I am carefully watching them during whole group teaching to make sure that they are participating and correctly completing their work.

Creating and evaluating teaching resources for student-centered learning. Ah-ah

One thing that I did not realize starting out is that these students need constant reminders and hands on activities. I have had to create many fun games and other things for my students to be more involved in their learning. I sometimes will let my students go up to the board and teach a math equation to the class. When reading No Child Left Behind, I found that it is not only about the students academic success but social and emotional as well. With student-centered learning this helps the students success in all areas.

Michelle BuchananOct 10

Great job! I really like your text/visual ratio in your PPT so that your teaching is not overpowered by the text in the slides, and your struggling readers are supported with this accommodation. I also like the added standards that specifically state compare/contrast. Here is a resource for how to embed a video into Google Slides: https://youtu.be/O7IueAHZ6gU?si=F32FSbudzhxCrtPd

One comment you made was a valid point. I have questioned since I started teaching if these ppts were kid friendly. I would like if the power point used terms that were more kid friendly instead of me (sturuggling first year teacher) trying to figure out a quick way to define a big vocabulary word to the class.

An impact this topic had on my classroom is that while doing this mini teach, I realize that if it is hard to get 22 year old boys to concentrate, it is definitely hard to get 7 year old's to focus. I found that in the past week I have done more learning standing up and letting students choose which activity we do while spelling our words with our bodies.
