Something really cool about Israel is all of the different landscapes. Along the coast by the Mediterranean Sea, there are a lot of flat plains that were perfect for growing plants and food. In these areas you could find all kinds of things from flowers, to fruits like oranges, grapes and lemons, and grains to make yummy bread. When God told His people about the Promised Land of Israel, He described it as a place “flowing with milk and honey,” which means it would be very good land to grow plants and food.

Location of the Transfiguration Matthew 17:1 - After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves. In the 4th century AD a tradition was established that Mount Tabor was the scene of the transfiguration and it was referred to as the Mount of Transfiguration, and over the next couple centuries there were three churches built on Mount Tabor. Modern scholarship has changed its opinion regarding Mount Tabor because of recent archaeological excavations. There were buildings and a city on top of Mount Tabor during the time of Jesus, which would interrupt the solitude mentioned in the gospel accounts. The more probable location would be Mount Hermon, which is relatively close to Caesarea Philippi where Jesus revealed who he was to his disciples.

When it was safe, an angel told his family to move back to Israel, and Jesus grew up in the town of Nazareth. The Bible tells us that all of these things had to happen for Jesus to be the Son of God, and they did!

Jesus was about 30 years old when he went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. Most people get baptized to show that they are going to stop doing bad things and instead turn to God. But Jesus never sinned! He got baptized because he knew at that moment he would show the world that he is living for God. The Bible says that after Jesus was baptized, God's voice came from Heaven and a dove landed on him. God said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

The term hanukiah or chanukiah, refers to the nine-candled holder used during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah.
