What is Outrigger Hotels and Resorts’ strategic position? What are its strenghts and weaknesses?

           Critical success factors:

           a. Providing guests with a rewarding experience and a sense of place

           b. Enabling employees to reach their potential

           c. Being an integral part of the community.

           d. The distribution channel of the business.

How well are current IS resources serving the needs of Outrigger Hotels and Resorts?

Technical resources: Stellex Centralized system which is good but centralization provide friction at times. “ We think that our IT capability in the leisure travel space exceeds the major chains and we have an ability to implement things very

quickly”.

Data & Information resources: E.piphany enabled the company to keep individual guests’ folio for three years. “We send thank you letters to recurring guests, we can give you history on who visited, how they got here, what in-flight magazine we should hit. We sold a resort once and they figured they would have to hire 3 people to achieve manually what our reports gave them automatically. They even set

their rates based on E.piphany forecasts.

Human resources: A corporate marketing staff of about 12 people responsible for managing the brand.

The chief operating officer responsible for all the hotel’s operations and the expansion internationally.

Stellex is old, the old employees have been using it for years and since there is low turnover, any new coming employees can easily be trained by the old ones

What should be, in your opinion, the role of the IS function at Outrigger Hotels and Resorts?

The role of the IS function should be in the strategic quadrant of the strategic grid. Their reliance on the need for reliable information is high to stay relevant to their customers.

Their reliance on the need for new information is also high due to its international expansion. they also need new types of IS because of disruptions in the industry and the need for constant innovation. To create a competitive advantage, the hotel should constantly strengthen its electronic relationship with distributors, improve its hospitality and managing inventory which will be possible with innovative information systems.
