Some people argue that plastic bags are suitable because they are lightweight, cheap, and easy to carry. People believe banning them would cause some difficulties to the shoppers. However, this ease in accessibility cannot be compared to the long term damage. Plastic bags end up in oceans for hundreds of years. Instead of that some solutions such as reusable cloth or paper bags can provide the same function while being environmentally friendly, proving that an ease of accessibility should not come at the cost of our planet.

Others say plastic bags are important because they are waterproof and help to protect food or clothing. While this seems useful, the harm caused by plastic waste is much more, as marine animals mistake them for food and often die in a result of that. Paper and recyclable bags can also protect items without lasting damage. Therefore, the argument for waterproof protection cannot be comparable when it causes a huge impact on the ecosystems.

Some people believe banning plastic bags might hurt businesses and some companies since they are cheap to produce and provide. However, this view ignores the costs of environmental cleaning and health issues that plastic bags cause. Using better options instead of plastic can bring new ideas and open chances for businesses that make environmentally products. Therefore, while businesses may save a little money with plastic bags, people pay a price in environmental destruction and future costs.
