I feel like this question is similar to the last, if education is failing and declining; then we have a crisis at hand. In comparison to other countries, we are not number one. We are not meeting societies expectations even here in America. I think that American education is not failing everyone, those who could climb that tree are able to have successful lives. It is failing the students who have different needs, who may be disabled, and those who are ELL. Looking at the test scores, the numbers, the data in the quotes from Reign of Error is discounting the students who are slipping through the cracks, who are not getting a sustainable education, and who are not always valued. Our students are more then just numbers, and I hope that we are not declining in the sense that there can be an upward motion of positivity towards teaching and valuing every diverse student in our classrooms.

I do not think the American education system is failing or declining in general. There is no reason to compare the United States to other nations because we are not like those other nations. I think there are successful schools and there are failing schools. This topic of American education is too broad to accurately say whether or not it is successful or not. I think according to tests we will always be "failing" because those tests only test one type of knowledge. Like how Keri says, a math quiz tests more than math. It tests a student ability to read, ability to problem solve, etc. Instead of worrying about how good or bad schools in general are doing, we should be worrying about how to better take care of our students and improve the schools that are not performing as highly as others.

Comparing the United States education system to another countries education system is NOT the way to fix our problems. When you look at a country like Finland or the city of Singapore, you cannot say that the United States as a whole can take the ways and means of educating there and place it here and work efficiently. With our diversity of race, culture, and religion, how are you able to put a system from a country that has a different demographic into play here? The education system might be declining but we can fix it. But it will not come about from taking another system and putting into play here.

After assessing these quotes, I feel that American education is not declining. The first comic, when applied to the education system, means that different students should not be compared to each other because each individual child has had different experiences and a uniques set of talents. This idea can also be applied on a larger scale, as schools from different countries cannot be compared to one another, and standardized testing does not accurately show the knowledge of every student. The slideshow included statistics about how well American students are doing compared to other countries. I feel as if these quotes go against what the first comic is saying, as the stats are taken from standardized testing results.

I am not willing to judge the American education system based on how well it does statistically in comparison to other nations. I will, however, state that it has not been declining and has shown significant improvements over the decades. It is my opinion that our education is failing us based on what we are being taught. The education system has not evolved with the world and for that reason I believe it fails students.

The education system has its problems. Comparing it to other nations is not fair. It is like a boyfriend comparing his girlfriend to his ex. Our education system is a wicked problem and does not have a simple fix
