Dear Senator Stabenow

My family loves to go down to the lake and admire the fish. I bet your family does too. But what if there were no fish left? We need to make sure that fish can live happily and in peace. Overfishing is a horrible thing and needs to end. Some fish will go extinct if you don't create new laws to stop overfishing.

A Lot of people love to fish and some companies need to fish so their companies survive, but if they keep fishing as much as they do, there will be no more fish left. “ Illegal fishing includes actions like fishing in protected waters, catching fish that are too young to have reproduced, and taking out more fish than government limits.”(“Plenty Of Fish In The Sea? Maybe Not”) Many people and companies are overfishing and leaving many problems with marine life. “Eventually overfishing could lead to certain species of fish being wiped out entirely. Shrimp, salmon, cod, tuna, and many more could become extinct in less than 30 years. Overfishing is a problem and can no longer be ignored.”(Plenty Of Fish In The Sea? Maybe Not”) As a result many important fish species, populations will go down or even go extinct entirely.”90% of the big fish are gone, they’re also very often full of toxic contaminants like lead.”(“You Can Help Stop Overfishing”) Overfishing is getting rid of bigger fish and also filling them with toxic materials. Overfishing is a bad thing, but in coastal areas, it can be a disaster.

This is why you should write legislation to limit the number of fish people can catch. Catch limits will allow fish populations to survive and allow people still keep their jobs. For example,” Catch limits that allow healthy populations to remain abundant and overfished populations to recover.”(“Sustainable Solutions”) As a result, this will allow populations to recover.” More no-catch zones must be established to allow fish populations and their habitats to recover and replenish themselves to ensure fishing for future generations.”(“You Can Help Stop Overfishing”) This legislation will allow fishing to be possible in later years. Imagine if all fish populations were thriving and all near-extinct species of fish are now swimming happily. We do not need extinct fish and we don't need overfishing.

Senator Stabenow, I know you want to protect the fish as much as I do. We love watching fish swim happily and in peace. So please help the fish populations by making new legislation to stop overfishing and limit the amount of fish being caught. You can stop overfishing and save fishing for future generations.

Sincerely,

     Kevin Ta
