She designs curricula that promote critical thinking and hands-on practice using inquiry-based learning techniques. In addition to teaching chemical, biological, and physical science classes, Toni Brand PhD conducts advisory classes for 7th graders, working in small groups to cultivate social and emotional skills.

Previously, Dr. Brand served as a long-term substitute chemistry teacher for 8th graders at San Francisco Day School and an Advanced Placement biology co-teacher at Abraham Lincoln High School. In the latter role, she participated with the nonprofit organization EnCorps in a program that paired classroom teachers with STEM professionals.

A graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara, Dr. Brand holds a bachelor of science in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology. She earned a PhD in cellular and molecular pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A member of professional organizations, including the American Association for Chemistry Teachers and the National Science Teaching Association, she enjoys hiking and traveling in her free time.
