most people tend to think that PRCs are generally noisy and rude/construction workers are dirty and smelly. these stereotypes/negative associations are usually a product of hasty generalisations or people have been socialised to think this way (influence from peers, family members etc.) although some may stem from the nature of their jobs ie. construction workers have to do manual labour under the hot sun
-amanda

single-parent households only have one parent in the house for a variety of reasons, but the society unfairly thinks that most of the single-parent households 'end up like that' because 1. of extra-marital affairs OR 2. (usually applies to mothers) the single parent has bad luck and people whom they are close to will end up with bad luck too, though it's the older generation who thinks of the latter being the reason behind single-parent households. hence, people would not want to be associated with people from single-parent households and would tend to shun away from them

The society perceived single parenthood is bad for the society and for the child. Supporters of the traditional family unit cite studies which show that a two-parent household is better for children. Those who grow up with only one parent do less well academically and emotionally, partly because they are without the perspective of one gender.

The single-wage family is less financially stable. In America, links have even been drawn between crime and children of single-parent households. There is also a worry that legitimising single parenthood will add to the erosion of the traditional family unit.

There are two main stereotypes of foreigners. The first one is the lower social class, and they are almost all the time viewed as inferior. They are viewed as uneducated, and sometimes even "dangerous". The second stereotype is of the higher social class, and they are seen as job-stealers, who take away all the jobs from native citizens.

people stereotype indians/malays to be very abusive, especially towards their wives or children. this leads to another stereotype that they are very dangerous people and should be avoided at all costs. these associations originate because of a few past reports on indian fathers abusing their children, and about them raping students. naturally, since indians in our society are the minority, the majority of chinese tend to think of indians negatively, which leads to racial discrimination.

Society views single-parent households as a result of extra-marital affairs/pre-marital sex which leads to the perspective that single parenthood is bad for the society, therefore keeping their distance from single-parents. An example is from the 2015 Singapore General Elections where NSP's Kevryn Lim spoke out on the disadvantages of being a single mother and fought for single parent rights.

The Singaporean government has already been trying to mitigate these circumstances by trying to implement policies that give unwed mothers the same rights as wedded mothers such as baby bonuses, HDB eligibility and the same amount of maternity leave. However, the government cannot solely be responsible for helping single parents hence acceptance must come from the public to welcome single parents into our society,
