  • In the world of this story, what does it mean to be female? What does it mean to be male? 
In this song, to be female means to put yourself before what someone else needs, in particular a man. To be a man, means that you aren't putting a girl first, and girls are frustrated about not being put first. Ultimately, to be female means to be independent.

  • How is the relationship between men and women portrayed? 
Men and women seem to be at odds. Women are angry because men put themselves first. Due to women's frustrations, the relationships seems to be separating because the girl decides she can be happy on her own. 

  • How do the portrayals of gender in the text reinforce or undermine the patriarchy?
The portrayals of gender undermine the patriarchy because it is a song that gives power to women. The women in this song are saying that they don't need men because they know how to make themselves happy.
