To start off, the poem was saying that we all have a choice for everything in life. In spite of this, everyone should be very careful of what we choose because if you choose an option, no matter what the situation may be, your actions can't be undone. Now referring to the "To Kill A Mockingbird" novel, Atticus decided to defend Tom Robinson from racism. Atticus didn't have to do it... He could have chosen a different option but since Atticus is a well-meaning and kind person, and has a clear sense of right and wrong, he wanted to stick up for Robinson.

For example, in TKAM, Atticus defends Tom Robinson in court, even though he is a black man. That is highly frowned upon during this time period, but Atticus is willing to take on that challenge. In the poem The Road Not Taken, the narrator decides to travel down the more difficult road that people usually choose not to take. He does this because he knows it is the better choice for him looking into his future, so he accepts the challenge and does what's right, just like Atticus. That is the connection between The Road Not Taken, and TKAM.

Atticus, like the man in The Road Not Taken both had to make a tough decision. Atticus chose to defend Tom Robinson, a black man. In this time period African Americans were treated poorly so when Atticus made the decision to defend that man people began talking about him. Even though most people would not have done that, like when the man in the poem chose the road that less people traveled, Atticus knew it was only fair that Tom Robinson had the same chance as everyone else even if it meant people would talk bad about him.

The connection between the poem and Atticus's decision is that both characters are choosing to do the thing that is not commonly done. In the poem, the character takes the road less taken, and stands out from the normal. Atticus defends Tom Robinson, which is standing out from the normal also because Tom is an African American and he is not usually defended. Both characters are deciding to not do the more common option.
