By: Alina
The common thought of an Inuit home might be an igloo, but that isn't always their main housing option. Igloos were only used for temporary housing on hunting trips. They also had different homes depending on the season. In the Winter, Inuits would make sod houses. Sod houses were dug out houses with walls made of rock and sod. Then, they would place whale bone to shape the roof and cover that in sod. Summer houses were less complex. Summer houses were tents that were made from caribou hide and wood frames. Since the Inuit were nomadic, they had to make houses that were easy to build up and take down.
Below: A picture of an Inuit Summer house.

Another tribe named the Yupik lived in this area as well. Some common features in Alaska and Canada are, the Arctic Coastal plain and volcanoes. Parts of Canada have been influenced by the Inuit and many parts of Northern Canada have the Thule culture. No other state in America holds such a broad range of Native cultures as Alaska. Some religions in this are include Eyak, Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian.
