My favorite memory is not just one thing, It is a feeling. We came together every morning, to the front of our room, and sat in our big circle. We got to know one another, share with one another and hear one another. We made friendships and built beautiful relationships. The caring community we formed was my favorite part of every single day.

My favorite memory is the day that the 2nd grade class hosted our "Kindness Shop" . We created different goods for Kindergarten and 1st grade students to buy their family and friends for Caring Day. Students worked on items for several weeks and the shop was a success! We were able to donate our proceeds of over $350 to a local shelter that helps women and children. It was the best way to end our unit of inquiry!!

We were all so excited to share our characters during Morning Meeting. The highlight of the day was parading through the halls of CSU with many parents joining us. The laughter, smiles and joy we shared on that day and throughtout the year will never be forgotten.

The best part of my year was our focus on kindness. The part that is most memorable was when we created and published The Kindness Book. Each person in our class wrote about kindness and illustrated a picture to go with it. It soon became a class favorite book that was read every day. We even enjoyed sharing the book at morning meeting and with our kindergarten buddies. Many of the students are are to share the book with their families as well!

We went outside and caught snowflakes on black paper. Everyone was so happy to be outside! We caught snow on our tongues and had so much fun together, laughing and enjoying the outdoors. It was really cool to see the snowflakes up close. The class was fascinated!

Another one of my favorite memories was from celebrating Valentine's Day! Everyone chose a box and we decorated with stickers, gems, paper etc. We played music, decorated and sang songs all morning together. The class loved passing out valentines and seeing their friends' boxes.

There are so many more memories, and our time together was always special!

8th grade students were tasked with creating a solution for the worldwide problem of plastic pollution. There were so many innovative ideas for collecting, sorting, reusing and eliminating plastic from the environment. One group suggested a solution for reducing local landfill levels of plasticine foam packaging and one time use plastic-based foam products. Their concept involved creating a mealworm farm at Norton Furniture, shown below with their 3-D printed model. Mealworms ingest styrofoam and create waste that can be used as fertilizer. They even discussed using the fertilizer for a rooftop garden that could grow produce for the community. The thoughtful solutions generated by every group give me hope for the future of our planet!

I always tell myself to take more pictures! This year I did not keep that promise! The art of science is to utilize the scientific method to address your curiosities of the world around you. I always encourage everybody to be risk takers and look for creative ways to solve what you may be interested in learning about! We had a good time in the lab...wish we went more...did lots of experiments...wish we did more...and learned about the art of science together. I appreciate all of my 6th and 7th grade students, and wish I was able to work with all the 7th grade! Below is one picture from our trip to the Great Lakes Science Center! We didn't always have smiles on our faces, but when we did we had a blast! Remember blowing things up to start the year...and keep on pushing those boundaries this summer! Now try a Minute to Win It and keep it positive!

It makes me so proud when I think about how much our class has grown as individuals and as a community. On of my favorite memories from this year was 4th grades Voices of Movement fair. Our class was so passionate and willing to hear the perspectives of others to better inform their own world view. The way our classroom felt after that event was different. They way we help our day to day discussions were so much more deep and considerate of other possibilities and perspectives. It was a moment I hope the class values as much as I do!

I loved how students would come in and set their creations, books, posters or objects they wanted to share in the front of the room and then come tell me what they were excited to share that day. The students who listened had the most thoughtful comments, connections and questions. They would find some way to tie their share items into our central idea, key concepts or standards we were working on. Zoom just couldn't duplicate how incredible these meetings were to me and all of my students.
