The character who's life was most affected by their environment is Johnny and/or Dally. Johnny is affected by his environment because he was beat by his father and his mother basically ignored him, he was also jumped by socs. That all affected him making him quiet, jumpy, and nervous. text evidence is "But after the night of the beating, Johnny was jumpier then ever" which shows how the socs jumping him affected him. Dally is affected because he went to jail when he was only 10, spent time in New York where he fought other gangs. He is tougher, colder, and meaner then the rest of the group. Text evidence is "Dally had spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten.".

I think Dally life was most affected by his soundings. Because with him he grew up on a bad side of New York. At that part of New York he saw a lot of bad stuff like stealing and all that other stuff. Not much of any other character in the book Because Dally is kind of the only Character that grew up somewhere else. In the book in Chapter 1 page 10 it says " Dally spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten" so that is another example of why it affected him.

Dally was arguably the most affected. He grew up in a pretty rough part of New York. This led to Dally being much more of a hood than the other characters when he got to Oklahoma. At one point in the book, Dally runs off from the hospital to join the fight between the Greasers and Socs, which is saying something.

The character most effected by his environment is Johnny because he was abused. In the book it says 'his father was always beating him up, and his mother ignored him, except she was hacked off about something, then you could hear her yelling clear from our house.' Johnny, without the gang, would have no idea what love and affection is, and that would have made his life miserable and sad. In the book Pony describes him as a lost puppy who was kicked too many times. Johnny also got jumped by the Socs, and he was even more miserable than when he gets beat up by his dad. Johnny would have been in less danger without the gang, but he would have had a higher chance of growing up to be like his dad.

For example his high level of anxiousness was due to the fact he got jumped by the Socs. Johnny was also forced to kill Bob because Bob and his friend were trying to drown Ponyboy, Johnny then had to run away because he did not want to go to jail, his environment affected him being scared enough to kill Bob and then running away, the gang would say how Johnny got the worst of it, his parents did not care about him, Johnny said "shes probably come to tell me about all the trouble im causeing her and about how glad her and the old man will be when im dead" this shows what Johnny thinks about his mother. The gang always says how Johnny looks like a sad puppy.

This also caused him to become dishonest, untrustworthy, and mean. Evidence for my response was that in the book, on page 3 paragraph 1, it stated " Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal thing and drive old souped-up cars.... ." After reading this line from the book we can predict that the Greasers are people who have less wealth, who shoplift, and have a reputation of being like hoods, which automatically tells us that they are treated with no respect, just like my theory above.

The character I think was most affected his his environment is Johnny. He was born into a family that dose not have much money and they live in the hood. Their are many gangs and hoods around the area which he cant control. His parents are abusive. A mother that yells all the time and a father that is usually drunk. The only way to escape all the chaos is to go his friends (gang). In the text is says "Soda turned him over gently, and I nearly got sick.Someone had beaten him badly." This shows that he had no control over the socs and how they acted. From that day on Johnny would always carry a switch blade in his back pocket.

I think that Johnny was most affected by his environment. Throughout the whole book Ponyboy talked about how Johnny was abused and how he CHANGED from being jumped by the socs. The book states that Johnny was not as tough as the other greasers, he was more soft BECAUSE OF HIS BAD HOME LIFE and being jumped by the socs. The book also said that Johnny sometimes would stay at Ponyboy´s house because he did not want to go home. I think that It could have really either been Dally or Johnny but I put Johnny because the story mainly focuses on Johnny´s home life not Dally´s.

I think in the book, The Outsiders Johnny changed the most. In the beginning of the book Johnny plays the timid, cautious, victim. At the end he is this tougher, adventurous, dead version of himself.
