I knew I wanted to get away, and Carroll was just the place. In my CCS course not only did I learn a lot about other cultures but I learned about my own Swiss heritage. I learned about empathy and how to understand other cultures and perspectives that are not my own. After being accepted into the Nursing program as a freshman  I quickly learned that this was not the profession for me. I began taking Education classes and loved not only the material but the professors and my classmates as well. While completing my education courses for my major I was also taking my Pio Core classes. Due to the variety of these classes some of my main take aways from these were the ability to think critically and creatively and collaborate with others. Thankfully, I had professors who highlighted these skills in their classes. In my Education classes I learned the values of compelling questions and the ability to clearly communicate with others. The first big decision I made was the choice to attend Carroll as my school for four years. After that I made many tough decisions such as choosing my major. I think one of the biggest and best decisions I made during this time was adding a Spanish minor to my studies. This important step allowed me to take my CCD course in Spanish and learn more about South American cultures and literature. This is one of the places I would have visited on my CCE to Costa Rica last summer. Even though it was cancelled due to COVID, I still feel like I learned a lot and I hope to travel there soon. I think this taught me a sense of Enduring Values as it was a difficult decision and I therefore had to make very difficult decisions about the next best steps for me. This is why I decided to participate in a CCE at Carroll that talked about diverse educational settings. A I wrap up on my journey of the last four years and what I have learned, I decided to choose Madison, WI as the end location. This is where I will be living next year and hopefully working as a teacher. The gateway experiences that you have just seen and read about have helped to shape me into the person I am today. With the help of Carroll's GenEd's and CCE classes I have learned the importance of critical and creative thinking, empathy, collaboration and communication, and the value of culture and community.
