With goals of the expedition is to perform a survey of the Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, studied the plants and animals at each new stop. He discovers many unique species on the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Peru in South America. These discoveries lead to his groundbreaking theory of evolution.          <description><![CDATA[<div>A German instrument maker, Augustus Siebe, refines and enhances prior diving suit designs and introduces the "Siebe Improved Diving Dress." This diving suit is the actual forerunner of the well-known deep-sea diving suit that everyone is familiar with today. The enhanced design provides the diver more flexibility of movement and is expected to last over a century.</div>]]></description>

Alden had discovered Monterey Canyon, the world's first deep sea canyon. This canyon stretches 95 miles into the Pacific Ocean and is 11,800 feet deep.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>An autonomous telemetering radio son buoy is invented by Coast and Geodetic Survey researchers. During Radio Acoustic Ranging (RAR) navigation operations, this equipment removes the requirement for manned station ships. This son buoy is thought to be one of the first moored telemetering sensors in the ocean. These buoys weigh 700 pounds and take only five minutes to deploy or recover by Coast and Geodetic Survey ships.</div>]]></description>

It's a compact torpedo-shaped gadget with a temperature sensor and a transducer that can detect changes in water temperature as a function of depth down to 935 feet. The name of the innovation has stood the test of time and is still used today.</div>]]></description>

The Challenger Deep is named after its depth of 35,856 feet. The Mariana Trench, located off the coast of the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean, is now known as the Mariana Trench. This trench is so deep that Mount Everest's summit would be nearly a mile below the ocean's surface if it were placed on the ocean bottom.</div>]]></description>

It is the first deep diving submersible built in the United States, as well as the first deep-sea submersible capable of transporting humans. Later that year, Alvin visits the Cayman Trough, the Caribbean Sea's deepest point. Alvin goes on to become one of the most well-known deep sea vehicles, having completed over 4,000 dives over its lifetime.</div>]]></description>
