Throughout KS3 and KS4, we celebrate La Francophonie with literature from BAME authors such as Léopold Sédar Senghor and music from Yeleen, Stromae, Zaz and many more. In year 8, students will study a Senghor poem, and all year groups have their favourite Francophone songs to listen to while they complete written activities. Year 7 compare their school experience with that of a French-American child in France and an Irish-Burkinabé child in Ouagadougou: authentic written and listening files contributed by friends abroad. Year 9s cover a diverse group of role models in their first term, drawing inspiration from a variety of lived experiences. We also run a Spanish after-school club, in which Latin American culture is celebrated through films like Coco and resources for Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead).
