I prefer music rather than it. Before, sculptures for me is just a block of material that is used to fill up space in an area just to make it beautiful. I also thought that it was useless and not worth my time. Some of the sculptures that I saw does not catch my attention because some of which are ugly to look at or it isn't my style.  Although I know how hard it is to make the figure and I know how hard it is to conceptualize it, I still never paid attention because it is not important and it is just a design. It will be ruined someday and in the end, it will turn into ashes. According to Gilson (1966), "Sculpture is the art of expressing ideas, feelings or characteristics by the chosen and obvious imitation of living forms."Statues are solid forms that are proportionate which pleases the eye. It is also said that sculptures show men the presence of a higher beauty which entails viewers to have a glimpse of an absolute beauty through these tangible forms which are the manifestations of the spirit. The form of sculpture as Fine Art is the end or final purpose of it is beauty. The figure has value and it is redemptive, it is not fleeting.
There are 4 periods involving sculpture which is Classical Greek and under this are Archaic, Hellenic, and Hellenistic. Other than Classical Greek, there is Classical Roman, Renaissance, and Baroque. In order to know the representation of a subject, one must know the different principles and elements. The principles of sculptures are orientation, proportion, scale, balance, and articulation. On the other hand, the elements involving it are the mass or volume, the movement, and the space of the form. I learned how to describe the form in an objective matter through these guidelines.
Like architecture, there are types and techniques involving sculpture. The different types of sculpture are Free-Standing, Hanging, Kinetic and Relief. Meanwhile, the different techniques in making a sculpture are carving, casting, modelling, and assembling. Sculpture is the art of making statues by directly working on a piece of stone, marble, or wood. The material that the sculptor will choose is an important aspect in making a figure because the material predetermines the kind of statue that it will become. It is also said that the material itself is art and there is beauty in it because of how it is made and techniques that the sculptor used.
Sculpture in itself is immovable, but it is the art of movement for space and time can be dealt with in fine arts as form. According to Gilson (1966), "the sculptor must find in the feeling of success, a source of joys proper to his art." In order to do so,  the sculptor takes time in making a sculpture to make it a beautiful figure. It requires a sculptor to move around it to view it as a whole and not part by part.
In conclusion, My view upon sculpture changed because our modules regarding it. I had learned that statues are solid forms that lack speech but the figure portrays so much more, especially, the figure that was done in the old periods. There is somewhat a mysterious aspect because there is no universal or definite representation of such figures but even though there are differences, in the end, these forms are made beautiful.
