It’s a good idea to create an open forum or discussion board where learners can post to request help and assistance from each other, developing peer-to-peer support. Setting up small groups, similar to traditional study groups, for supportive mentoring of students also works well.

As an online teacher, our feedback helps to create an eLearning experience that is informative, engaging, and motivational for the student. The feedback needs to be continuous during the eLearning process, with constructive feedback offered as soon as possible so that students can clearly identify which behaviours or skills need to be improved.

It's also easy to get distracted with 'edutainment' and provide an experience that might be engaging but ultimately superficial in terms of learning - so planning online teaching courses or individual sessions takes time, patience and trail and error too, particularly if you are trying out different technologies and things that are new to you. However, it's important that the students don't feel like guinea pigs - there is nothing worse than attending a session where the technology is clunky or doesn't work properly and time is wasted.
