Overall, I really enjoyed the “gradeless” policy. I felt like I was holding myself accountable for my own success, and when I created something, I made sure it was of quality so I knew that I earned an A. It really helped me with responsibility as well. However, I know that this system could be abused by students who won’t try very hard and say “I can just give myself an A.”

I really liked the graceless policy mostly because I was able to feel in control of my grade and I was always reflecting and able to look back at what I accomplished. I also think that most of the time the most difficult critic can be yourself, so this gave me an opportunity to make sure I was getting the grade that I believed that I deserved.
The only thing that I think was hard was having to take time to have students reflect and grade themselves. It would be hard to do this for a math class as well, just because that is more numerical based and if you got it right, it was right otherwise it is wrong. There isn't quite as much wiggle room with math and science as there could be with English and history.

I loved how we as students could reflect on ourselves and how we still go feed back from the teacher. What I also loved about this was that we got a huge understanding of how and what we could have done to set goals or improve on what we could have done better. I also loved how when we get the reflection sheets we can actually get a huge understanding of what we as students felt was right for our grades.

I love the grading. At first i honestly thought that that all of the students would take advantage and give themselves an A on everything and abuse the power, but i honestly think we respected the power more than anything. Having the ability to honestly say what you think your grade should be is amazing and a huge privilege and we were all extremely honest about it. It worked great and made this class the least stressful out of all other classes just because we know were getting what we actually deserve.

Still having your peers and teachers input allowed for you to strive for a better grade. It also challenge how you look at your own work and allowed you to feel proud of yourself.

I also think that by going gradeless I wasn’t worried about my grade. Everything I did wasn’t just for the grade. I was able to enjoy this class and learn more than I would’ve. In other classes I just take the test and move on and forget everything I learned. In this class my knowledge has stuck with me.

Overall I think the successes of this model relies on the maturity and responsibility of the students. There are absolutely classes where this would definitely not work, Math courses would struggle with this. But science history (Not AP) and creative electives would benefit from student choice.

I think it is a great opportunity to express honesty, however I also like the reassurance of what the teacher thinks about my work and what grade they think I deserve. So when we would turn our work in and then the teacher would say what they think we earned and then what we could do to reach that “A level” then the student can go back and add to their work to reach the standards.
