         <description><![CDATA[<div>I have learned that I need to use "I can statements" by Oct 2, 2017 next year and make it my routine or else I won't incorporate it into my daily routine (this year as an example), start small, only focus on math maybe.?&nbsp; I have learned from my professional development this year that success criteria is important to develop with the kids as often as you can and make it broad so it can go across curriculum.&nbsp; It is just as important if not more important than "I can statements", I believe. &nbsp;<br>For upcoming 2017-2018 school year I need to teach writing starting Oct. 23 and have an anchor chart to focus on for every 2 weeks.&nbsp; Focus more on developmental writing than Lucy Calkins to get these kids where they need to be, really.&nbsp; Take more professional development on teaching writing for Pre K-1 students. &nbsp;<br>Best of Luck!<br>Sincerely,<br>Me</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Well, literacy takes a slightly different meaning as a music teacher. I think of literacy as being literate in music reading. Music is its own language - just ask anyone who can't read it. I've discovered this year that young students will learn their notes very quickly, and don't need to spend forever reviewing. My time has been much better used going on to new concepts. I've been able to use more games and songs, rather than just reviewing over and over.<br>Back to "English" literacy - I would love to find songs about English concepts, and possibly perform them in the spring concert. I know they're out there, I just have to find them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Through coursework in the areas of motivation and differentiation I have spent more time reflecting on how to get my students more engaged and successful with literacy and content. I try to always give students a chance to complete Round 2s (and even Round 3s) to improve the skills that are being assessed. &nbsp;<br><br>I have used musical parodies as anchor texts to increase motivation, and have also encouraged students to write their own parodies. &nbsp;<br><br>I can't wait to see the direction we go with literacy next year. I think we should explore ways to get students more motivated to buy into what we expect them to be able to do. &nbsp;<br><br>-Colleen</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>You have kept the learning expectations high for yourself this year and I am impressed.&nbsp; It being your last year as a classroom teacher and all.&nbsp; Good for you.<br><br>A literacy support you have proven to be just what was needed to support essay writing, especially expository and argumentative, has been teaching with more Shared Writing prompts. &nbsp; The intricacies of writing good essays can be overwhelming for learners so sharing the experience together first<br>&nbsp;is a terrific support. &nbsp;<br><br>Next year...the one piece I hope and pray continues is keeping literacy front center for professional learning.&nbsp; The new teachers coming on board will likely have loads and loads of ideas and strategies around teaching content and learning new writing modes.&nbsp; Wow, how cool will that be!&nbsp; I learned about Writing in the Round this year from a practicing teacher!&nbsp; I have used it several times.&nbsp; Good stuff.<br><br>Love and hugs,<br>Me</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dear&nbsp; Me,&nbsp;<br>&nbsp; Art is visual literacy! So it is very important that I develop lessons and units that teach students the skills to communicate their ideas, choices and understanding! In K-3, I read many books with my students to inspire them. We look at how authors and illustrators convey their stories. In grades 4-8, I use many various art lessons that reach across all content areas to help students see the connections.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;The art room environment is very important to developing literacy skills. The art room wall has the elements and principles up all year for reference. We read and use the Studio Habits of Mind together. They are posted to refer to when focusing on specifi skills. Changing up Images, phrases and quotes that are posted encourage questioning and discussions.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;The National Art Standards are divided into four areas, CREATING, RESPONDING, CONNECTING and PRESENTING; so these help guide me in my instruction. In the past couple of years I have discovered that having students write reflections about their art projects has given me many insights into their learning. I will continue next year to find other ways for students to express their ideas and reflections.          <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I like the way you worked to have your students involved with all aspects of literacy - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. An effective idea/resource you used was Engaged Interactive Read-Alouds; specifically modeling reading for deep understanding. Research has proven that read-alouds can be very effective. Among the many benefits are building vocabulary, developing comprehension, modeling fluency, motivating students to read, and encouraging high levels of understanding. When we read aloud to students, meanings can be debated in discussion before, during, and after reading the book.&nbsp; In addition, the read aloud provides opportunities for students to analyze, synthesize, compare, contrast, make connections, and predict to name a few.&nbsp; Furthermore, teacher read-alouds demonstrate the power of stories.<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Next year, I would like to see some more focus around read-alouds.&nbsp; In the process, I hope we can encourage and motivate students to want to read more. &nbsp;<br><br>Mr. Rayner&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
