Second day of the course was very interesting. We had a visit from local musicians who first explained importance of music in everyday island life. So we learned about Gwoka-guadalupean traditional music
which have 7 different rhythms and which is played in various of occasions (from carnivals to funerals). We also had opportunity to play drums, dance and sing. From all that we realized that every country in the world have similar traditions whether that was instruments, songs or dance and that preserving such traditions can be crucial for country existence in today globalized world.

I have found out that Guadeloupe is a home to a cultural mix which is very unique to each part of the island, also discovered the importance of the music in their lives. We have learnt that all cultures in the World have similarities in their traditional folk music otherwise called - work songs. Furthermore, I have already figured out how to apply the knowledge gained today that could be used at my work in fine art lessons, as in music there is a repeated beat (rhythm) just like in traditional ornament making.

Ethnic music as a sociocultural phenomenon allows to comprehend the national identity of peoples and universal norms in each culture which make a methodological basis for formation of moral beliefs of a personality. Every nation has it's own musical heritage however there are a lot of things in common. This fact inspires to look for parallels between different cultures.

2d day af the seminar. A very nice excursion in Poite des Chateaut with Rita, gave us the opportunity to get to know more about the island, fauna, artisans work. In the afternoon in the music session we get in touch with incredible Guadelupian music. I realised how much the music lacks from schools and is a pity not to incorporate the power of it in our lessons.

What happened today is that we have made another step closer to what Gouadeloupe really is. Gouadeloupian folk music, as the folk music all over the world, is closely related to simple people's life, reflects their experiences, comes out of their soul, helps them to express their feelings. In a unique experiential way, we learnt basic things about gouadeloupian music, felt her power, as well as the power of the people here.
