In the first classes we have learn that academic English needs knowledge of ideas, concepts, definitions, stories, and the types of academic writing. Academic English is often considered relatively formal, complex English that conveys ideas in a precise and objective manner. General English is a leisure language used for communicating with friends and family. The types of academic writing included descriptive, persuasive, analytical, and critical. The descriptive provides facts or information, and the persuasive is analytical and adds a point of view. The analytical and critical skills are the same in reorganising facts and information into categories. Besides, I felt confused about the academic English because I had not seen it before at secondary school, but it is interesting. We have enjoyed cooperating with each other, and it has brought us closer, even though we did not know each other before. We want to learn how to use academic English in the right way as we write an essay. I would do more research on academic writing and understand it to avoid making mistakes in the future when using academic English because it is different from general English and I have to be careful more.
(196 words)

In the third week, we learn that thesis statements are concise but precise, objectively clear, and direct. Thesis statements tell the reader what to expect from the rest of the paper. Thesis statements are more attractive to the reader compared to general statements. Next, I felt happy about the lesson we learned because it is very useful for us as students who need to write essays frequently during our school day. We have enjoyed learning the different statement essays between general and thesis, and we have also enjoyed the class. A thesis statement can sometimes become an essay outline to guide us while writing an essay with no ideas. After having a thesis statement, we could go to the next step of having topic sentences, supporting details, and examples. We want to learn more about how to use the thesis statement to write an essay. I would read more articles and novels to enrich my vocabulary to avoid encountering words that I do not know how to spell during the exam.
(171 words)

Before the mid-term exam week, we learn about plagiarism, referencing, and paraphrasing. We must avoid plagiarism and respect the originality of others. In referencing, we learn about Harvard Style Referencing. The reference list is located at the end of the work. Paraphrasing is usually shorter than the original passage and is different from summarizing. However, I felt appreciated in the class because, through the Harvard Style Referencing method, we could preserve the copyright of the author who wrote the article and report, etc. We enjoyed the lecturer's sharing of his own story. It made the class more interesting. We would not feel bored during the class, and after sharing a story, she would recall what we learned in the last class to avoid us forgetting. We want to learn more about how to write a good summary. I would do more research to determine and distinguish the paraphrase and summary because they appear to me to be the same. I will be careful in the future when I am doing abstract writing.
(172 words)

In today's lesson we learn that judgmental language suggests that one is making a personal judgment. Emotive language appeals to the emotions or values of your reader. Personal language is whether or not one use first person language like I or we. All the above should be avoided when writing academic writing as it is important to be objective and accurate. While writing depends on the context, purpose, and audience, the manner in which we write affects the perception. This lesson was insightful. I was frustrated initially but saw the value in it. We have enjoyed the lecturer's explanation; it was very clear and easy to understand, and we have learned how to distinguish sentences. We want to learn more about how to rewrite sentences so that it becomes academically inclined. I will be more careful in future with my word choices and sentence construction so as to elevate and enhance my writing performance.

(154 words)

In today's lesson and after finishing the tutorial, we have learned how to distinguish, analyze, and rewrite sentences. For example, distinguish the sentences by what type of language they use, such as judgmental language, Emotive language, or Personal language and we have to avoid it in essays. Rewrite the sentence using techniques such as paraphrase and express yourself clearly. Besides, analyze the sentences: are they vague, unclear, specific, or more colloquial? Next, I felt interested because we can use so many methods to rewrite and express the sentences. We enjoyed doing the tutorial given by the lecturer and discussing the answers with our friends. We want to learn more about how to analyze sentences using some techniques and give examples of similar sentences that are but not actually the same to avoid being misled. I would like to read more articles to understand how they used to express their ideas through sentences, and it would help me rewrite a sentence.
(160 words)

Today’s lesson taught us about paraphrasing.Paraphrase is express the meaning of using different words, especially to achieve greater clarity.Paraphrase can either quote or paraphrase literary texts. In paraphrasing,we learn about four strategics that is changing active voice to passive voice, using synonyms, changing sentence patterns, and revising the order of ideas by using wider and more advanced vocabulary. I felt confused during doing the tutorial since I did not clearly understand and grasp how to changing sentence patterns and revising order of ideas. While learning on this course, we can learn more grammar and synonyms. This will help us to do a quality academic essay by using words with more advanced. This also gives us a better grammatical foundation. But for those who do not have a good foundation of grammar it will be more difficult to understand and answer well. Finally,we want to learn more about how to paraphrase so that we can make better use of it in writing essays. I also will do more tutorials to train my paraphrase skills to strengthen my writing skills and avoid plagiarism.
(185 words)

Today, Miss Hasinah explained the second lesson, planning and writing essays, to us in class. There are five steps to planning an essay. The first is choosing a topic, followed by the steps of organizing information, outlining, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. The outline of the essay is a combination of an introduction, general statement, thesis statement, topic sentence, supporting details, examples, and conclusion. After explaining, Miss Hasinah asked everyone to choose a topic to write an essay on, as everyone would then have to do individual assignments. We feel a little confused about today’s lesson. The reason is that we need to think about how to choose a topic and write the outline of the essay. The advantage of writing an outline is that it can stimulate more ideas and opinions and make us more engaged in writing, but the disadvantage is that we need to spend more time. So we need to learn how to manage the time it takes to write an outline. An outline is the basis for writing a good essay. Therefore, we need to practise writing outlines often to help us complete essay easily.
(190 words)

From the task we have learned: discursive and expository, how to do a poster more perfectly; and debate motion. The discursive and expository are defined as empharized the argumentation and unfolding statements consecutively into paragraphs. The poster we do is related to the details of the thesis statement, topic sentences, supporting details, and examples. The debate motion's title is that moral value is important in competitive situations. The debate motion stimulates our thinking and creativity. Other than that, I felt the activity was fun today because we needed to think about the reason and value it by ourselves. We have enjoyed sharing and discussing the answers or ideas we have and allocating the different parts of the task to every teammate to do each part. It is more efficient. I would like to learn more about the skills that I cannot learn from the syllabus. I will attempt to use other software such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to complete a report or project.

In week 6, we learned about summary. It is a compact version of the original text and only includes the main points. Besides, there are two types of summary: informative and descriptive. An informative summary maintains the tone of the original text and conveys information in a concise and precise manner. A descriptive summary focuses on the original text rather than its content. It adopts an objective view as it differentiates between the writer of the origin text and the writer of the summary. Next, I felt surprised because the summary was similar to the paraphrased We had a small discussion between our group members to compare the summary and paraphrase. Because they are similar, some of us may feel confused, so we figured it out from this discussion. I would like to learn more about the technique of summary because in every essay we do, we must do a conclusion in the last paragraph and we use summary. In the future, I would try to do more summaries because we make mistakes frequently, such as inserting our own opinions, comments, or evaluations. It is incorrect to do this. We have to avoid it.
(194 words)

From today's task, we learn about Compare and Contrast Essays. Actually, they are the same and they are a style of essay that points out similarities and differences between two or more subjects. The key to a good Compare and Contrast Essay is to choose two or more subjects that connect in a meaningful way. When we are writing Compare and Contrast essays, we have to use specific details and examples to explain why the difference and similarity matter. I felt a sense of achievement from today's task because our last class before this was also a poster, and after the lesson I became more skilled at doing PowerPoint, so for today's task I am more efficient than in the last lesson.

In the last week of this semester, we learn about opinion essays. An opinion essay is written to convince the reader that our point of view is correct. The key terms of an opinion essay are that you have a firm opinion that you want your reader to accept. Begin with a grabber or hook to get the reader's attention. Offer evidence to support your opinion. Conclude with a restatement of what you want the reader to do or believe. This is what we learn from the poster's information synthesis. Besides, I felt excited about opinion essays because we could use these types of essays to persuade others to consent with us through facts, logic, and quotes. We have enjoyed the tutorial because it requires us to use more thinking and creativity. I would like to learn more about this type of essay because it is a great way to persuade. In the future, I would do more practise on opinion essays to enhance the skills to persuade others using facts, logic, and quotes to make a well-founded statement and prove our view.
(183 words)
