"To avoid such confusion, society consents to have its choice narrowed to ideas and objects brought to it attention through propaganda" (Bernays 39).

I feel like this quote helps explain the laziness of the masses. It is just so easy to allow choices to be made for us, and if we were filtering our own propaganda we'd just get overwhelmed. This quote also resonates with me because one of my favorite terms of all times is "sheeple". Someone who just follows the shepherd into the pen. We allow for certain ideas and forms of propaganda to be filtered to us for connivence.

It would make sense that propaganda is the executive arm of the invisible government. Propaganda is used to influence our decisions. We are constantly soaking up propaganda and its messages everyday. It influences our thoughts and our actions.

"There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes" (Bernays 61).

This would make sense, as there are billions of people, and without control there would be chaos. The idea that there are people working behind the scenes is a little frightening. No one likes the idea that they're not in power or in control of their lives. We believe that the most powerful person in our country in our president. The truth is the president is just as much as a puppet as the rest of us.

"It must dramatize its personality and interpret its objectives in every particular in which it comes into contact with the community (or the nation) of which it is a part" (Bernays 85).

Businesses need to connect with the public. Nowadays the public appreciates a personal connections with the businesses they interact with. Businesses have to create an image for themselves, an image that becomes dramatized. Dramatized usually for their own personal gain. A positive public image does wonders for a company. Even the occasional negative attention can be it. It creates a narrative around that company. Companies and businesses need to seem that they are transparent even if they are not. In order to interpret its message successfully to the community it is involved with. People want to trust what they are getting, and companies build this trust through dramatization and interpreting its objectives as needed.

"The voice of the people expresses the mind of the people, and that mind is made up for it by the group of leaders in whom it believes and by those persons who understand the manipulation of public opinion" (Bernays 109).

We express how we feel constantly now through social media, but expressing needs and wants has been going on since the dawn of time. Today advertisers buy our attention through social media to deliver a message that is supposed to align with our needs. These messages, or forms of propaganda, are trying to affect us the most by affecting our needs. Causing the masses to conform to that message affecting the way they think or feel. People who understand manipulation and persuasion can influence public opinion.
