Baptism began with a guy named John the baptist, the prophet who foresaw Jesus' coming. Baptism is an introduction to the Christian faith. Different churches and groups use different methods, they all have a single thing in common; They all use water. It's a symbol of spiritual purification and cleansing. For examples of how they differ, the Eastern Orthodox Church immerse the baby in water, an the Roman Catholics pour water over the baby. The godparents are required to attend the ceremony.

Godparents are people who present a child at a baptism and promises to take responsibility for their religious education if the parents are unable to do so. The infant's often given a name during baptism. This is called christening. Many choose to name their child after a saint in hopes that they'll get the characteristics of said saint.

In marriage, a man and a woman devote themselves to each other. This is the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, where the couple in question both agree to mirror the union of Jesus and the christian church. The marriage needs to be a symbol of self-sacrifice and of devotion, to imitate the qualities of Jesus Christ. Most weddings have a celebration or party after.
