The 4 men above me are the men that were on trial for the beating of Rodney King. In April 1992, after a year-long trial, a majority white jury acquitted the four police officers that were part of the beating of Rodney King. The verdict sent deep anger and frustration into the African American community and others who thought of it as an injustice. This led to six days of widespread rioting, looting, arson, and violence in Los Angeles.

The riots resulted in the deaths of over 50 people, thousands of injuries, and billions of dollars in damage. The affected areas were majority low-income neighborhoods with high poverty rates and saw widespread destruction. Korean-American businesses, in particular, were targeted during the unrest. The riots highlighted long-standing racial tensions and the issue of police brutality in Los Angeles. They brought attention to racial problems within law enforcement and raised important questions about racial profiling and the treatment of minorities by the police.

During the riots a highly affected area of Los Angeles were business that were owned by majority korean people. With a lot of these Koreans being immigrants and it being mandatory to serve in the army at the time if you lived there many of them were trained with using guns. Many of them instead of sitting around and letting them get looted they took to their roof and fought of the bandits with their rifles. Reason they were named now as the "rooftop koreans".

Some things I learned researching this was how such developed place like America and such a big city like Los Angeles turned into a wide west with no laws for days and how it took them that long to get it to stop with the sheer amount of chaos and lawlessness there was. It changed my thoughts about how the civil rights movement got their goals because when I typically think about the Blacks getting rights I think of the peaceful protests, but now hearing this it shows about even the extreme measures they had to take to get rights and I think it showed me really how fed up they were with the system. I think in the present day this could connect with the George Floyd riots that took place, I think they were very similar in the sense that a black man was treated unfairly and people felt outraged about it and went out to cause damage and demand change and in that sense they were very similar in nature and in overall goal.

People felt that black people were consistently targets and treated unfair by cops and the riots were trying to send a message that this was not okay and that things need to change and after years of peace I think people finally hit their breaking point and they needed to do something dire to show how they felt.
