During the war many minorities especially African Americans, Natives, and Mexicans were segregated and didn't have the basic human rights. They were thinking that since they don't have rights they shouldn't have to fight for a country that doesn't fight for their rights. Even though this was going on 300,000 Mexicans joined and around 1 million African Americans joined. There was still segregation in the army they had their own camps and own training.
