In the articular it says, "They where  afraid of a disease that half of the Yellowstone buffalo had.The disease is called brucellosis." This way buffalo where  tested for brucellosis and if the buffalo had it they ether killed the buffalo,sent it away or took it out (freed the buffalo from the disease).
