I was a student of Plato, but I disagree with him on most things. For one, ideas have no separate existence from the material world. I believe in two types of virtue, moral and intellectual. Anyone can attain moral virtue, but only philosophers and scientists can attain intellectual virtue. Government is required because the laws and education system they ensure, provide the best training needed to reach moral virtue.

My belief in two types of moral virtue which lead to happiness should have been applied in ancient Greece. A public school system would allow for growth of culture that would allow for everybody to reach both kinds of virtue. With the ability to reach both types of virtue happiness would have flourished in ancient Greece.

Aristotle believed the government is necessary because the laws it enforces and the educational it provides help people become moral. This can be applied to our society because our government has laws to keep people safe, and a free public education system.
