My School-From-Home Workbook! (Day 42 - Friday, June 5th, 2020) by Mark Giraldi

I will be sending a new one of these each school morning to your parent's e-mail! It'll contain all of our schoolwork for the day. Any assignment submissions can be turned in through our class site (Edmodo). You should aim for one hour of schoolwork each school day! Don't forget about Ms. Garbett's weekly French work (posted on her Brightspace site), which you can access through your BYOD page (https://byod.peelschools.org/), and Mr. Bieman's Music page, which you can access through Google Classrooms (https://classroom.google.com/).

This week we're going to be reviewing key Language terms used to break down/analyze narratives (whether in written stories or film)! Our fourth one is 'Summarizing', which is a recounting of a story, focusing on only the important details of setting, character and plot!

Below there's an example we used earlier this year on a short story called 'The Desk'. If you don't remember it (or the 'Must Sees' of a Summary), check it out again! You can also re-watch the story from the Padlet link.

After reviewing what a summary needs, watch the short story below (called 'L.O.U.')! After watching, create a 'recount' or 'summary' of the story! If you don't want to use this story, feel free to use any narrative (fiction) story off our Epic Online Library!

SUMMARIZING REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT
What is a 'summary' or 'recount' of this story? You'll be writing it out in a response (either voice recorded, written by hand with a picture/scan taken, or typed up using your choice of a variety of online programs), including...

- Setting (when and where, descriptive words)
- Characters (main characters only; who they are, what their role is, their appearance and their personality)
- Plot (problem and solution, maximum of three events being explained)

I've attached a graphic organizer below to help you, along with an electronic link!

Please turn in your work in our Language Arts section on Edmodo!
