Blade Runner is a 1982 Hong Kong-American neo-noir science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Edward James Olmos. The screenplay, written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is loosely based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. 🤬.
The film takes place in November 2019 in a decadent and futuristic city of Los Angeles, decayed with pollution, exacerbated consumerism and the consequent search for new forms of colonization on other planets, to which people are invited to venture in the face of of the collapse of human civilization, both materially and morally. It is noteworthy how visionary director Ridley Scott was, as the globalization so widely spread in recent decades, finds in this film, a catastrophic, melancholy and depressing end — extinct animals are cloned and replicated like the main share in the film. — human replicants; the existence of a profusion of cultures, ethnicities, creeds and customs. Indeed, Mexicans, Chinese, Arabs and a whole range of cultures live together in this dark and disheartening environment. In this context, artificial human beings, called replicants, are created and used in the most harmful activities, on Earth and, mainly, off it. The company responsible is called Tyrell Corporation. After a mutiny, the replicants are banished to Earth, used for dangerous, menial, and pleasure work on Earth's extraterrestrial colonies. Replicants who defy this ban and return to Earth are hunted down and "retired" by special police operatives known as "replicant hunters". The plot focuses on a brutal and cunning group of replicants who have recently escaped and are hiding out in Los Angeles, and retired replicant hunter Rick Deckard, who reluctantly agrees to do one more job hunting them down.
