Critical pedagogy has themes that I really like and they are critical consciousness and Literacy. They both make the student to become aware of his ability to participate in their own learning and in the transformation of the society This has to do with reflection and action to bring about social change which is called 'liberation praxis' (Ledwith, 2005).

Philosophy as a way of thinking

I see philosophy as a way of thinking beyond ones own common sense. Infact, it is about having a rethink about the world we leave in and how to reflect radical change. This involves the use of dialogue, appreciating and respecting each other. This is because we want to challenge common sense assumptions and philosophy indeed helps connect one to what is happening in the society.

HUMAN UNDERSTANDING

Socratism says that human understanding have got holes in them. The people in the position of authority often talk about their objectives being that of equal opportunity and equal right. They say that but do you really think that they do promote it in the real sense of creating equal opportunities for all. The third way approach places more emphasis on equality of opportunity rather than equality of outcome. They think it is acceptable for some people to end up unequal so long as they all have the opportunity to be successful. They say rewards should be based upon merit rather than seen as a universal entitlement (Haralambos, Heald and Holborn 2008). This takes us again to meritocracy which we talked about in class, what do you think?

REFLECTIONS ON PLATO'S PURPOSE OF EDUCATION

Plato was born in Athens in 428/7BC. He is given a particular consideration when we speak of the existence and development of formal education. To him, education means producing a complete person that has developed intellectually and morally. His main ideas of education were established in the form of dialogues and to him, education is something that is very important in the society and this is because it forms a person and enables an individual to lead a good life (Plato, 1995). He had a good concept of education and I really like his concept because of the reward at the end of it all. Yes, education is good but do you think it holds a brighter future for all men in the society looking at class stratification and privileges?
