Submitted to Red and her command she runs after Zora ready to kill. 

In relation to the theme of human nature, it’s common to see, ‘people wanting success and doing anything to achieve it, setting goals (start a protest/rebellion)’ we know that this doesn’t always happen. (aka. the American dream/hands across America)

(Insanely perfect) Her figure, although slim is athletic and speedy. Like the tethered, she dressed in the red overall/jumpsuit. In relation to the whole of the film Umbrae wears the same rebellious attire to her ‘rebellious untethered mother’. The outfit brings to surface a distinction between the hands across America. Umbrae is quite plain and simple, eerily simple. Her expression is commonly pleased, happy and satisfied. The calmness on her face when trying to kill, trying to laugh, is a strong disturbance to the viewer. Umbrae, as quirky as she is was unable to connect with her double and in turn tried to kill her. She was so attached to her double, they were one together and unified, but they couldn’t join hands. The name Umbrae often refers to the ‘darkest part of a shadow’ and it translates to the Latin word for shadow. It could have relevance to a ghost or phantom. 

A ‘shadow’ is what the tethered represent, shadowing their twins above their tunnels.

The name Umbrae as already stated means shadow, it relates to how the tethered are the shadows of the society above ground, they live their lives unknown. “As a shadow.”

They break into their house in silence and then are introduced to their doppelgangers by their mother and leader of the tethered ‘Red.’ The introduction to their second family was unexpected and frightening. It shows that they wanted to scare them so that they would listen, they were rebellious and unstoppable when in need of something or someone. The nature of Umbrae portrays the rebellion in the film. Her emotion showed no fear and she was almost invincible you could say, with the help of her family also. Them wearing the colour shows they are respecting her as their leader, the colour relates to her name. Umbrae has minimal communication skills, and likes to laugh. I find that she wants to create a connection to the other family and that frightens Zora because she lacks the skills to create connections. Umbrae also means shadow, I interpret this as Umbrae shadows Zora with most of her traits, as well as literally shadows her.
