QIP Program

Staying away from 'rotation' due to the connotation

Leadership is part of the program, but avoiding it in the title

?two thirds of the candidates' time is still spent there

Time spent in other healthcare environments, relevant to the pathway of the patients seen in home place of work

'Placement' time (Is there a better word?) would ideally be supernumerary, but not just observation. 'Hands on' experience felt to be important.

Education elements

Possible cohort of 30 across London. Across 3 pathways

Stakeholder input is key

Tertiary Paediatric Surgery Ward- Inc. KCH, ECH and SGH in South Thames (London)

DGH- BCYP with ongoing complex needs, relating to surgical pathology- Stoma/ Jejunal feeding

Would be difficult to predict activity.

Community Nursing- Children with ongoing needs in community, parents doing bowel washouts for Hirsprungs, Home TPN?, Stoma care, Feeding (would need to liaise with community teams to understand better)

Not part of this pathway per se, but Day surgery care/ preassessment/ clinic follow up all interesting and different environments...

CNS teams are well developed for surgery- Paediatric Surgery CNS, ENT CNS, Spinal CNS, Orthopaedic CNS

Ideally they provide the training

Alternatively they provide the training to our educators and we deliver the session

Alternatively share a different Improvement Methodology

Some common elements- QI methodology for example, and some pathway specific education, delivered by experts

Competent and confident in current working environment.

Supporting others to develop their competence and confidence.

Developing leadership skills (taking charge, or overseeing an area or bay).

Alluding to band 6, but not excluding 5 and 7.

Eg. a senior band 5, who has perhaps moved between specialities, so developed in terms of experience, but hasn't progressed up the bands.

A band 7, quick to progress, little understanding of the bigger picture.

Two thirds of working week. 2x LDs or 3.5 9-5 days

Three month program?

Weekly opportunity in a related (same pathway) placement

1 LD or 1.5 9-5 days Total 12 LDs or 18 9-5 days

Education delivery would also need to be within that time

3 different placements over that time? Equal timing? Longer acute placements? Some single days- Eg. 111 platform, Health Visiting, Community Care....

Nurses to learn QI methodology, to make ongoing service improvements as they progress in their BYCP Nursing career

Develop leadership skills

Nurses to see and understand the whole of a child and family's pathway, so they can be proactive in planning for the next steps. EG. Discharge preparation and community services communication for complex children

To understand the Child and family's experience of the full pathway. In acute nursing, you are only seeing a snapshot.

Think its really important all programs need a pathway element and may be more important than clinical areas as I think this should be offering something different
