Ratliff defines transmission in music by explaining that it is the extreme form of emotion in music that transcends specific moods. I agree with Ratliff because artists use transmission to allow their listeners to feel the artists true emotions by continuing to give listeners more than they need. Artist do this by slowing down their music so that listeners can fully hear and feel the vocal range of the music or the soft melodies within the songs. Within the chapter Ratliff uses the example The Morning After by Frankie Beverley and Maze. Ratliff explains that this song pauses time to reflect the Frankie Beverly's thoughts of the morning after. At first he is satisfied, but his feelings soon change to think of the consequences of his actions. I choose the song Cause I Love You by Lenny Williams because this song shows the emotions of a mans heart break and the pain that he is going through. The song also reflects the how the people around him didn't understand the love he had for that girl. I also included Fire and Desire by Rick James featuring Teena Marie because this song is another example of how these two artist express their true emotions. These two songs exemplify this music concept because they are songs that are slowed down to force its listeners to be fully engaged in the music and feel the emotions that the artist is feeling.
