Objective: By the end of the lesson, SWBAT recognize and name 3D shapes.
Standard: Analyze characteristics and properties of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships
Materials: Crayons, Paper, tape, scissors,
Resources: Read Aloud https://www.amazon.com/Shape-Suse-MacDonald/dp/1416971475
Structure of the Lesson: Students will listen to the read aloud.
- Discussion Questions: What are the different shapes you noticed? Are all shapes flat?
After the discussion, students will explore the classroom trying to find 3D shapes in the room. Students will then try to build those shapes with precut paper and tape. I will bring the students back to the carpet to debrief on their process and introduce the vocab, which would be the name of the 3D shapes.
Assessment: Students will draw different examples of the 3D shapes in a worksheet I collect. I will also look at the shapes they made and collect anecdotal data from discussions as I monitor.

I like this lesson. I found a book that I think would go well with your lesson but I haven't found the name of it yet but as soon as I find the it I will attach a picture.

The fact that you used the classroom as their "You Do" made me smile. It is important to show students how their everyday lives connect to their learning.
