Doli tells him, "that's because you really didn't want to give it up. In the back of your mind and the bottom of your heart, you didn't want to change..."

In the story "The Stone", Maibon is internally conflicted about growing older. He was driving down the road and saw an old man hobbling along down the road, then later arrives home and says to his wife "Ah, ah what a sorry thing it is to have your bones creaking and cracking, and dim eyes, and dull wits. When i think this might come to me, too! A fine, strong armed-man, sturdy-legged fellow like me? One day to go tottering and have his teeth rattling in his head and live on porridge like a baby? There's no fate worse in the world." (p.1) The fact that he passes an old man and then proceed's to complain that he will one day be old and fragile unlike his former fit self shows that Maibon is internally conflicted about growing old and brittle.

In the story The Stone Maibon is conflicted internally and externally about growing older. He tries to get rid of the magic stone but it keeps coming back to him. An example of external is when his wife tells him "And that cow!" Modrona cried. "She's long past due to calve, and no sign of a young one ready to be born!"(p.4). Even though the stone might result in youth for Maibon, the stone is affecting every thing that is around him negatively.

In the story, "The Stone", Doli is conflicted about not being able to turn invisible. When Doli gets stuck under the log and Maibon sees him, Doli tries to disappear. When Doli tries to disappear he can't do it. Doli says, "No matter how hard I try! I can't make myself invisible! Everyone in my family can disappear... But not me! Not Doli!" (p.2) Everyone else in Doli's family can disappear, but he can't and that frustrates him. This shows how Doli is internally conflicted.

He was stuck on the log and no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't break free of the logs grasp. In the story, the narrator (When talking about Doli) states "There, struggling to free his leg, which had been caught under a log, lay a short, thickset figure: a dwarf." In the sentence shown, it shows he was stuck on the log and no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't break free of the logs grasp.

In the story "The Stone" Maibon has conflict with his wife because with the stone that Doli gave him he will stay young while his wife and children grow old and gray. I know this because on page 4 it says "Thats all well and good for you. But what about me? You'll stay as you are , but I'll turn old and gray, and worn and wrinkled, and go doddering into my grave!...." She says this in the sense that Maibon is only thinking about himself and no one around him. He wasn't thinking of his wife or his kids or anyone else!! He wanted to live the good life while everyone else continued to age and live a proper human life.

In the story "The Stone" Maibon, Modrona, and his crops and animals and even his baby are conflicted because of the stone his crops aren't growing and the baby is toothless the cow is calfless and it is effecting there family and what they eat and Modrona isn't happy about all this conflict. An example from the text is ''Maibon, its fault of that stone!" wailed his wife. "Get rid of the thing!" (p.4)The fact that the stone is effecting Maibon and his family is showing external conflict because it is making Modrona really mad and then her and Maibon are fighting about it.

In the story "the stone", Maibon is externally conflicted about growing old. Maibon tries getting rid of the magical stone but it keeps re appearing. This affects him externally because in the text it says "Some days had gone by and still the eggs had not hatched, the cow had not calved, and the wheat had not sprouted." (p.4) This shows he is externally conflicted by all the crops not growing and the animals not giving birth but he will keep the stone because it will make him keep his youth even if this means everything around him being stuck in time.

Doli is conflicted because when he gives away a stone, it causes a lot of trouble. So, he yells and yells at Maibon. Doli says, "Those stones-- we'd sooner not give away. There's a difficulty----" (p.3) This shows how Doli is conflicted about giving away the stone because he knows that the stone is too powerful for Maibon to handle.
