Signpost: CC
Evidence: "Embarrassed, I slide my drawings underneath my blank writing assignment. I've been drawing pictures of myself being shot out of a canon. it would be easier than school. Less painful."
(Page 2)
Claim and Reasoning: I think it is a CC because, most kids would rather go to school than be shot out of a canon. Also, being shot out of a canon would most likely injure the person.
Answer to Anchor Question: I think Ally is acting this way because has a difficult time in school and learning.
Literary Element: I think this is a theme of the book. I think the theme is don't judge a book by it's cover. I think this is the theme because you should not judge ally from how she acts and her learning divisibility because she is actually very nice.

 Signposts: AM
Evidence: "She shakes her head a bit as she speaks. I just don't get why in the world you would give a pregnant woman a sympathy card? Sympathy card? I think. and I think some more. And then I remember. My mom sends those to people when someone they love dies. my stomach churns, wondering what Mrs. Hall must have thought.
(Page 9-10)
Claim and Reasoning: I think it is a AM because she is realizing that she just gave a pregnant woman a sympathy card. when you give those to people when someone they loved dies.
Answer to Anchor Question: I think this will change how she observes things, because before she kind of just picked something fast based on how it looks. Now she will observe what she picks, and she will probably be more careful about her decisions.
Literary Element: I think this is character development because she will probably change the way she observes things.

Well, that's because I'm taking classes to get a degree in special education. basically, it's a degree to help me help kids like you. Kids who are smart but have learning differences.
Smart? Learning differences?
(Page 165)
Claim and Reasoning: I think this a a TQ because she is wondering how she is different.
Answer to Anchor Question: It makes me wonder what learning differences Ally has.
Literary Element: I think it is internal conflict Because she is thinking about the smart learning differences trying to figure out what Mr. Daniels means.

I feel rushed, like i have to get everything in fast.
Well, you'll always run into people like that. you can hold your own, I bet.
(Page 170)
Claim and Reasoning: I think this a a WW because Ally's mom is telling Ally that sometimes people won't be nice to you but it will be okay.
Answer to Anchor Question: I think it will help Ally understand how to deal with people that are not nice to you.
Literary Element: I think it is character development because Ally will change the way she acts with mean people.

 Signposts: AA
Evidence: "He holds up his milk carton. suppose I say this is orange juice. doesn't change whats inside. thats different. i say, thinking the milk will think it is orange juice if it gets too it enough. It is the same principle. i think of the word dumb and baby and think how wrong Albert really is.
(Page 94)
Claim and Reasoning: I think this is a AA because Ally keeps calling herself dumb, because she thinks she will never be smart.
Answer to Anchor Question: I think this word keeps showing up because Ally really never believes in herself about learning.
Literary Element: I think the literary element is theme, I think it is part of the theme because at the end of the book I think it shows that if you do not believe try harder to believe and you will succeed. It shows it because Ally at the beginning she does not believe and she did not do it, but at the end she believed and she did it.

 Signposts: MM
Evidence: Mr. Daniels stands whats wrong Ally? Please help my brother. I take a step forward. he needs to learn to read to. I think of the poster in Mrs. Silvers office. Mr Daniels hand is reaching for mine. And mine is reaching for travis.
(Page 265)
Claim and Reasoning: I think this is a WW because Ally is remembering the poster in Mrs. Silvers office that helped her believe that she could read.
Answer to Anchor Question: I think this is important because Ally is remembering that she could believe to read from the poster so maybe it could help Travis read.
Literary Element: i think it is part of the theme that if you believe you can do it. It shows this because Ally at the end believed she could read, then she did.
