Edpuzzle

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/edpuzzle/id919598209?mt=8

1. Edpuzzle allows you to use any links from youtube, vimeo,
khan academy and other video outlets as a lesson. You can edit the video so students only watch
the portion you selected. You are able
to make a quiz to attach to the video and grade

to see how much the students understood the concept being
taught.

2. Free

3. I would use this app for specific units being
taught. Often it is hard for me to find

videos in Spanish without ads or inappropriate content. This would eliminate any worry of that. I would also use that as a home component for
parents to be able to follow up with what the students are learning and they
would be able to take the quiz together.

2. Evernote

This app allows you to do a little bit of everything. It is a word processor that allows collaboration with peers, coworkers, and others. It allows you to take and add pictures to your document. Adding audio or a voice memo is also within the realm of this app. This app allows the scanning of text to share, create a to-do list, and synch up to any of your iOS devices in your classroom. This is a great tool for students to be able to create a report using the various modalities that they need for their learning style. I would use this for writing, projects for content, and reading. This type of app would be more engaging to students as they like to find videos, pictures, and using their voice to talk about what they know. This is a great tool for sharing and collaborating with my colleagues for data, trends, and video clips. I am definitely looking forward to playing around with this app a little more to see and experience the full potential of the app. This will allow me to see if my fourth graders might be overwhelmed or love using it.

Tutorial: https://youtu.be/DxZACVx2s0w

Cost: free

1. 30/30

30/30 is a free productivity app for time management. This app allows making a daily routine into a game like experience because once a routine is mastered, one can challenge oneself to do it quicker. It allows you to prioritize and set a time for each task in order to accomplish your goals for the day. It has colored coded features that enables the classroom teacher to create daily tasks and time management for each of the subjects or tasks that are being assigned. This tool would be helpful for sharing with colleagues how long or short tasks are taking for this group of students. It also helps with showing a visual for how much time a student has in order to use his/her time efficiently. As long as the app is used with integrity and used daily, I think this would be a great app that could be used both as a productivity tool for my students and myself as well as a great classroom management tool. I would demonstrate the app the first day of school to show the students what it's
purpose is and then create a challenge of improving over time. Link this with a reward system the first few days might be something to strive for. What surprised me, was that I would not have thought of displaying a challenge to my students in such a visual way. I feel I
might even enjoy the challenge too.
Tutorial of how the 30/30 app works.
https://youtu.be/BsBfcoG83gY

Showbie

When students first started submitting work electronically it seemed like a great idea, until 100+ emails started showing up. Showbie is the solution. It is a one place where everything is going to arrive at. Teachers can assign, collect and review the work from anywhere. Teachers can select certain tools, or give students free choice to select their own methods - word processing, slideshow, cartoon creation, mind maps, images, voice messages and thousands of apps will all work on Showbie. This makes it easy to accommodate different learning styles. Teachers can also leave feedback by annotation, notes or even voice recordings. Students do not need an email account. They should never lose an assignment! It is designed for grades 5-12
Costs: free! There is a $99 school pro version to allow data to be collected at the school level. The free version is "limited" to 100 assignments. This seems more than sufficient to meet my requirements.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MJRgHZwN8U

I love the idea of leaving audio feedback. I often thinking aloud while grading but can't take the time to write down all my thoughts. I think I would more likely to leave more specific feedback with this tool.

This app really appeals to me. It is specifically designed for students using iPads. It seems like it could help with our transition to 1:1.
I was surprised by the set-up that has the student joining the class which eliminates the need for the teacher to create the class. This is a huge time saver for the teacher. I have not seen this feature on any other app so far.
A question I have is how can I differentiate within a class, or will I need separate sign-ons for each group? I like to keep my differentiation discreet.
This app could really revolutionize how I teach. Could paper really be eliminated? Right now I spend significant time teaching how to write a proper heading! Will we care about headings if the assignment is transmitted electronically? What might this mean to the student the following year if the next teacher doesn't use this tool? We need to have some serious school wide conversations about iPad usage! I also need to know more about different apps to be able to use this tool most effectively.

Kahoot.it

This app is similar to Socrative and Infuse Learning. It is a game based platform for learning. Students are very engaged as it is fun and they receive instant feedback. Teachers can create quizzes or use the existing public ones. Answers to the quizzes can be useful to determine small group members or spot an individual student that is struggling. Students can also create quizzes as part of their own presentations!
Cost - it's free!

I can see so many uses for this app in my classroom. Pre and post assessments can be done, especially now using the ghost feature where students can play against their previous score. I love the idea of having students create a quick quiz for the end of their presentations to emphasize the point that such presentations are meant to be learning moments for all students. Plus I think students will be more thoughtful about the content of their speeches, Google Slides, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFFv6_6was4

Many reviews mentioned using Kahoot as an exit slip tool and it is easy to see that value but I also see it as a bell-ringer. I imagine how excited students would be to get to class on time and not be late for 10 quick questions.

I was surprised to read advice to NOT use Kahoot at the start or during class but rather to save it for the end because students can get so rowdy. This sees counter-intuitive as the rowdiness is evidence of engagement! It should be easy to train students to use it appropriately during class to use it again for an exit slip later.

Another thing that surprised me was a recommendation to have students use their real names and not nicknames so make grading easier. Kahoot can be used as an actual score and not just for fun.

One question I have is will this tool really increase learning. I look forward to researching that question by testing a subject students typically resist strongly - parts of speech! I was glad to see so many public options on that topic which will allow me to implement my research from day one!

The sender can set a time and location, create a list, add images to the list and archive the notes. The notes can be colored.
What surprised me was that one could add images to the notes.
This would be valuable for Team meetings as a teacher since we are always using our technology.

Schoology

Schoology is a learning management system that teachers can use to create content, design lessons, and do assessments. Teachers can randomize test questions so that neighbors have different screen displays. It accommodates interactive discussions, and can interface with social media. With a premium add on it allow for an interface to Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote and more. In fact it is described as having a "Facebook-like feel". Students can create an avatar or upload a photo.
Schoology is free to educators with optional premium add-ons.

I plan to use Schoology for our word-part assessments. It will allow for instant grading of 10 units. The pre and post assessment are 107 word parts and is very tedious and time consuming to grade. This is not a grading moment that adds nothing to student learning.

There are multiple YouTube videos regarding Schoology. This is the overview of the on-line discussion for forums:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSiSLuPdcqA

I learned that Schoology is an app that offers a lot of options. The teachers I work with find it useful and easy to use. With a tool that allows for easier grading in the classroom there will be more time available for instruction and learning.
Questions I have are regarding the learning curve for myself. This tool appears to have so much to offer that it is overwhelming. How does one find the time to master this and everything else? The best answer I have is to make a deliberate effort to make one change a quarter and to communicate more with other teachers that are using the app and share successes
(and failures). I am going to ask administration to allow at least one early dismissal day per quarter to be spent designing one new lesson using such an app.

Easel.ly
Cost: Free

Summary: This is an app that allows students or teachers to create and design infographics, powerful visuals. Design experience is not necessary since the app provides templates and figures/numbers, etc. to use in an infographic. It is touted as, "a canvas for creation."

Uses: There are many saved infographics for students to view to get an idea of what these are. (Also, a site called Daily Infographics provides students with many examples.). Since this site can be used by all, be sure to choose the ones you're sharing to fit your students. Students can do research and then use Easel.ly to share their information in a visual manner. There is a present mode so that it is easier to see the infographic. Part of the CCSS includes being able to read and create many types of charts and this is just one more type which is often seen in magazines, newspapers and other media.

Reflection: I stumbled on Easel.ly several years ago when they were in beta testing and have used it several times on projects with my eighth grade students. At first, it was easier to use on a desktop, but then the app was developed. The rating for this app isn't high (only two stars), so I would like to investigate other apps that also create infographics at this point. However, I do like the visual way students need to succinctly share information and the chance to analyze infographics. I also like that as a teacher, I can create a group, assign a code for each of them so that their work is protected.

Tutorial LInk:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0VHyKgdbUhU
App Link:

There are all genres.
Cost: This is a subscription service. The cost for a parent is between $5 and $10 dollars monthly. Parents can have up to four reader profiles on each subscription. School subscriptions can be up to $80 a month, but I couldn't determine how many profiles that might be. With a subscription fee does come the advantage of no commercial advertising.

As my readers are at the older end of the age span I probably wouldn't ask the school to purchase a subscription but I do see a great use here for the struggling reader and ELL students. Perhaps I would request a "parent" subscription to be purchased for the few students that have the need. It has the extra advantage that students never lose their books!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi1ZVBjNde0
I've learned that the days of searching high and low for an audio book are truly over.
I was surprised that they did display the recommended grade level to the student. This could be disheartening to a struggling reader.
My biggest question is why are they stopping at age 12? Why not be a complete Middle school solution?

This is an app I would purchase only if it fit a student's need. I do intend to find out if the school already has a subscription and for how many users. Perhaps each teacher could reserve one used id per class.

1.
Tellagami allows you to customize a character
and scenery and make an avatar of
yourself. The avatar can then be given
dialogue to record and speak. You are
able to then share it on twitter , text, or email. This would allow a student to be creative in
telling a story or for those students who might be shy in sharing in front of
the classroom.

2.
Free

3.
I would use this app for the students to be
creative in telling a story or having the student write a story and have the
avatar read it. I really like that you
can text and email it. I would
definitely use this as a way to share work with the parents.

This is a great tool for teaching non-fiction reading while keeping up with current events. It allows students to read articles in a news paper/ magazine fashion. The articles are written at differentiated reading levels and languages to allow for all abilities within the classroom to successfully read and comprehend the material being covered. Each of the articles has assessment questions that review the material covered in the article. There is a teacher dashboard that allows for teachers to see the progress of each student. Students will love the games portion of the APP as well. The cost of this is APP is free for a trial period, but then will require an unknown fee ( Sorry, I searchedEverywhere and the cost was no where to be found.)This App will be a great resource for teaching current events and discovering and using elements of non-fiction reading. This app allows for differentiation among students to be successful in presenting the information they are assigned.
There are lots of creative fonts and color pallets you can add to your work. Teachers can easily assess the work of their students by having them air drop their assignments into your account.
was surprised to discover this is $9.99.

App 4
Epic Reading App
Is an online / offline unlimited books for all reading levels. This app is FREE to all educators and just $4.99 for individual use. I had the opportunity to use this app in my second grade class during guided reading time. Teachers set up an account for each of their students which includes their reading grade level. Student set up their reading preferences by selecting subjects and topics of interest. each student will receive recommended reads determined by their topics they choose. The APP has over 10,000 books that include popular titles such as Scaredy Squirrel, Chronicles of Narnia, GooseBumps and much much more. The App also offers Audio Books and Read to me books for your ELL or RTI students . Teachers can monitor students reading by checking their book selections and time and pages read. I would like to see an option for teachers to be able have them have a minimal time limit for each page before they are allowed to flip the page. I would also like for there to be an option to turn off audio books and Read to Me options. The students are asked to rate their story on a 5 star assessment. In result of reading the books and rating them, they will receive badges. These badges allow them to change their characters.
During my use of Epic, at the completion of Guided Reading Centers, the students are required to complete an Exit slip answering the following questions. 1. Something I made a connection to in this story was ?......2. Doodle Buddy

1.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/doodle-buddy-paint-draw-scribble/id313232441?mt=8

Doodle Buddy is an interactive
whiteboard where students can draw, write or scribble answers. There are different colors, stamps, and
writing utensils that students can choose from.
It can also be used to practice fine-motor skills. Doodle buddy also has the option of emailing
any work produced .

2.
Free

3.
I would use Doodle buddy for students to write
down answers and then share them with the classroom on the promethean
board. Doodle buddy would also work well
for those students who are struggling writers and still need to make pictures
to show their understanding of reading concepts. I would also use it for math for students to
show and explain different concepts especially word problems.
