We had both been treated at Mayo (as well as Univ of Iowa hospitals for me) but had different types of chemo and different surgeries. Mike had the Whipple procedure, but I had the tail of my pancreas removed. It was major surgery for both of us. We have done well since surgery until this spring, when we each had a recurrence and are now undergoing chemo again. We feel incredibly blessed to have survived this long with pancreatic cancer, myself 2 1/2 years, and Mike, 3 years. I was diagnosed May 2014. I began chemo at John Stoddard Cancer Center on my 52nd Birthday! I had 4 rounds of very strong chemo every two weeks. While on a ‘break’ from the two weeks I had to get a daily shot to boost my white blood count. In August of 2014 my  husband and I traveled to MD Anderson to consult with a Whipple surgeon. He had an opening in 2 days!!  My surgery was 9 hours, where 60% of my pancreas, duodenum, gall bladder, and a 2x2 part of my stomach were removed. I have been cancer free since chemo!!
