It was hard to get into the movie in the beginning and it felt that they were just trying to drag the movie on as long as possible. It takes a while for the movie to actually get into the Civil War, and many people that don't know the movie would probably find something else to watch. They should speed up the first part and try to hook the watchers quicker. Was this a book/trilogy? I thought only books that became films and television series could be this confusing. The ascents were pretty cheesy, but that didn't bother me so much as the historical inaccuracy. Whenever the slaves were told that they were free, happiness and disbelief were the first feelings expressed.
