I decided to use acrylic paint on two canvas boards. I wanted to use the canvas boards because they supply support and will allow many layers of paint. To begin my project, I did random brushstrokes in one color. I was listening to an intense song so the strokes were fast and thick. I focused on the color red and blue for the base. I then took water and randomly placed in on the board, this created light colors that mixed them. I then used squeegee and kept adding more and more colors to the base I created. Soon, the base was hidden and only the color blue showed through. I like the fact that it is relaxing and calming. I just randomly draw what I''m thinking but its frustrating when it just looks like a 3 year old did it. Spontaneous art making can create unique looks but its hard to make everything cohesive.

Today I accomplished adding layers of paint to cover the white areas and change the areas of focus to the middle. I added lighter colors and more yellows by using squeegee. I also added darker colors like purple to create emphasis and add contrast. I also used a stamp like method to add certain prints of color! I discovered that squeegee can create really cool textures ! I also discovered that water can create very light paint colors. I made the painting too busy which is a hard challenge to overcome. Also, I am struggling withe my corners. It is hard for me to find the look that I like. Finally, I am struggling with knowing what I am trying to achieve. I just want to create a unified, cohesive piece but it is extremely hard when regarding abstract expression. Overall I like how the piece is coming out! I love my colors which are vibrant.

I took a risk by using bloating with a paper towel to blend the colors together. I also tried to brighten the piece up with white since I am comfortable with my darker colors. I stopped using the squeegee which is what my main focus since I wanted to challenge myself. I also used water and other liquids since I didn't use them yet. It helped me develop my piece into a more complex design because more elements and techniques were being used. It helped add layers and created more texture. Im proud of the texture I created but besides that I really do not like how it looks. Its way too bright and not cohesive at all. I need to continue developing the interests of focus because right now it just looks like I threw paint on without thinking.I also need to work on the colors I am using because it seems too complicated.

It uses random splashes of color but still maintains a very simple background.

I recognize print making techniques especially the use of zentangles. I also notice the use of water color throughout the peiece.

The artist maintains a unified by design by utilizing the open space and creating rhythm throughout. The values of color also create a balanced vibe.

Analyzing today's inspirational artwork helped to design my process in many ways. By observing another artist, I was able to learn that open space can help create unity. Also, It also showed that print making can be used to embrace the under painting below. I also learned that the colors should all be compliments of each other. My color scheme is very bright and warm. My main focus is on the color red and yellow. I use the contrast with the colors of purple to create darker contrast. I use many tints of red to create pinks and lighter shades. I also use saturation's of yellow to create emphasis and contain brighter colors. I am moving towards developing my design by using the skill of masking to help move my favorite parts to the front. To create a sense of unity I am going to try and make a more cohesive color scheme.

I AM CHALLENGING MYSELF A LOT. I am going going outside my comfort zone which was giving me anxiety at first. I added texture to the sides of the painting which is something I was hesitant about. The texture helped to make it more cohesive. I also used taping which is a new technique I never used before. Some development that were added were the banners on the side. These banners help the eyes to focus on the center of the piece. I also added more squeegee patterns to add to my color scheme. These squeegees contained more red, yellows and pinks. I got rid of alot of the purples in my piece because they were way too distracting. They took away from the overall piece itself. I am still experiencing many challenges. I cant seem to make the center look unified. Also, it seems too distracting right now. I do not know what to add.

I pursued adding dots into my piece. I added a gold glitter color to the top of my piece because it needed contrast to the red and pink tones. I did not get to add much because I spent most of the day planning and researching new techniques and methods. I was really struggling with what to add because I did not want it to be distracting. By developing my piece more, hopefully it becomes more cohesive and less distracting. It is currently a little overwhelming but I hope I work out the kinks. If I add more contrast, it will create better rhythm. Other students like the piece but they believe that certain areas need work. They believe that the bottom is too dark and does not help the piece become cohesive. Others believe its cute but need work moving certain areas to the front and other areas to the back. Overall, they like it which makes me happy.

FINAL REFLECTION

How did your use of color help define your composition?
The use of color really helped to define my composition. I used a very warm color scheme with a few blues and purples in the background. I used lots of yellows to create emphasis and contrast. I did a lot of color mixing which helped to make my piece look more cohesive. The use of dark reds against the yellow and pinks really helped to pull the project together. I included no black and very little white because I did not want to add extreme colors, instead I mixed these with other colors to get tints and hues.
Express your thoughts on this documentation process?
Is it overwhelming at first because you just want to work on your piece but you have to finish reflections. I really like the idea of documentation though because it really cool to look back and view the evolution of your piece. By documenting struggles and what needs fixed, I was able to look back and make those corrections the next day. This documentation process was overall very helpful even if it did get annoying some days when all I wanted to do was paint.
What are you proudest of ?
I am really proud of my ability to push certain aspects to the front while pushing some areas to the back.My all time favorite part is the texture I created right in the middle. I really enjoyed making different patterns with squeegee and the different colors I created when color mixing. I love how warm everything feels and how the corners help draw attention towards the middle. The gold dots also help to add a cool vibe to my art.
What would you have done differently with this piece?
I would have maybe added more colors to create contrast. I would also maybe try to leave white spaces and then work with them later. I also would have maybe tried using less paint so I wouldn't create such a thick texture that was hard to squeegee after a while. I would also focus maybe more on painting rather then squeegee. I would want to experiment more with different texture methods.
Additional Thoughts?
Overall, I really like my piece although day 2 was my absolute favorite. I REALLY enjoyed abstract painting which was kind of surprising since I wasn't appreciative of it before this project.
