As such, we find that there are several variations in what people consider as beautiful. Generally, people enjoy beauty because of its power to appeal to individuality, including one’s thoughts and emotions which we might see as reflected in the art that we recognize as beautiful. A thing is beautiful as long as it is powerful enough to convey its primary message to its audience. Oftentimes, this is our initial reaction to objects or art forms that we judge as beautiful. But as we grow up, we come to learn that there is more to beauty than what appeals only to our thoughts and emotions.We come to realize that one, there is a deeper aspect to this beauty that we perceive on the surface and two, beauty is not always subjective. The objective component of beauty is made alive through the appreciation of the intrinsic excellence of an object - the admirable beauty as coined by (Adler, 1981). At first thought, admirable beauty may be confused with the definition of the word “admire.” To admire means to look at someone with pleasure. In the context of admirable beauty, this pleasure arises from the intrinsic excellence that we find in an object. We admire an object because we see that an object is perfect and thus, it deserves our delight and appreciation. The capacity to decide whether these objects are beautiful or not are left in the hands of the experts in the field of art. There may be contestations but ultimately, experts truly know what is objectively beautiful from what is not. Man is therefore left as a mere witness to the beauty that the art forms exude. In the realm of subjective beauty, the judgment of a non-artist cannot compare to the judgment of an expert. Beauty in this sense is something that is exact, definite, and intrinsically possessed by an object whether or not all people appreciate it. With this information comes the realization that, although the majority of the world’s population are not considered experts in the art world, we can still develop the skill of admiring beauty through educating ourselves of the standards of excellent art forms and objects so that we may be able to judge accordingly. Although we grew up hearing the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” we learn that there is a facet of beauty that is subjective and therefore is distinct and cannot be debunked. This kind of beauty can stand alone.
