Glycosis occurs in the cytoplasm, but the Krebs cycle, and electron transport chain occurs in the mitochondria. Gloycosis is a process in which a molecule of glucose is oxidized to produce 2 molecules of pyruvic acid.
The energy is used to convert glucose into 2 molecules of PGAL. 2 molecules of PGAL will be oxide to produce 2 molecules of pyruvic. Pyruvic acid is a 3-carbon compound.

There are two possibilities for the path that oxygen will now take. It depends on whether or not pyruvic acid is present. If the oxygen is present: In the presence of oxygen, the pyruvic acid will enter the mitochondria and undergo aerobic respiration. Aerobic respiration includes the stages known as the krebscycle and the electron transport chain. Aerobic respiration will yield many more ATP than Glycosis . If no oxygen is available: In the absence of oxygen, the pyruvic acid will enter the anaerobic pathways of fermentation. Fermentation yields no additional ATP. This occurs in the cytoplasm. The hydrogen that is removed from pyruvic acid will be accepted by NAD+ to form NADH. There will be a small yield of ATP. The NADH that has been produced during glycosis and the Krebs cycle will be used to produce ATP. Most of the ATP produced during aerobic respiration is produced by the electron transport chain.
Note: NADPH is plants. NADH is animal
