  • Students will learn the elements of art (color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value). These will be expressed through a variety of media such as graphite, charcoal, painting, printmaking and sculpture. We will study movements in art history and apply them in a contemporary way, working both observationally but also conceptually. Students can expect to leave the class with such skills as learning proper proportions in drawing a portrait and learning how to blend colors in acrylic painting

    • Instrumental Survey is for the high school student who wants to learn how to play different types of instruments.  Our survey introduces the student to four different instruments, the recorder, the guitar, keyboard, and percussion.  Throughout the semester students will learn how to read, write, compose and perform music on all instruments.

    Drumline
    • Drum is open to CSE students looking to participate in the school percussion ensemble. The drum line student will learn the fundamentals of reading music, rudiments, and other basic percussion techniques essential to performance. Instruments learned in drumline will include snare drum, tenor drums (quads), bass drum, and cymbal line. The class will be divided into performance groups based on skill level, but all students will be given the opportunity to perform.

    • In band a student will learn to properly play and read music, individually and as an ensemble.  The band student will understand and utilize a basic amount of music theory, note reading, and music history, as it relates to the various musical pieces/genres that the band will be performing.   Band is open to any CSE student that plays or is willing to learn a woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone, or oboe), brass (trumpet, trombone, tuba, baritone, french horn), String (violin, viola, cello, bass), or percussion instrument.
