04/02/2021 - Today we worked on our teamwork and creative thinking. We worked in partners 
and my partner was Dom. In our groups we each came up with a word that begins with the first letter of our last name. I chose Jet and my partner chose Time Machine. We then had to combine these two ideas and create a proposition for a business idea. We experimented with divergent thinking and came up with as many ideas we could think of. After that we explored the uses and target demographic of our idea.

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower

05/02/2021 - Today we had to design the tallest tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti. It required using collaboration and critical thinking.  In the end, our's did not stand, and the triangular shape of the structure caused the tower to twist in on itself. We had to think way outside of the box in the end  our original plan for our tower did not come to full fruition and crumbled. We had to think outside of the box and stick the spaghetti into the holes of the table.

Throughout the first 3 weeks we participated in a number of activities which mainly used our collaboration, divergent and convergent thinking  and our critical thinking skills. We wrote down as many ways we could imagine, to shave a monkey and to paint and elephant, using our divergent thinking, a thought process used to consider many impossible solutions. The latest task we completed was when we constructed a tower out of marshmallows and  spaghetti. This task required the most collaboration of all the tasks and a lot of critical thinking. The tower building process had many steps and a flaw in any step meant that the structure would not stand, proven by our outcome.

The previously mentioned tasks all used the four C's or 21st century skills. Communication creativity, collaboration and critical-thinking

Critical thinking is one of the major c's that is essential to learning entreprenureal skills which we leaen in action project. Critical thinking encompasses a number of strategies which we need to use to further our abilities in school and in our careers.

Creative Thinking

02/02/2021 -  Today we mainly used our creative thinking, when we did three activities. We were given a full page of circles and drew whatever we could think of, aiming to fill as many circles as we could. The second and third activities were very similar. We were given around 2 minutes to write down as many ways as we could think of, to shave a monkey and 2 minutes to do write down how many ways you can paint an elephant. The aim of this activity was to use divergent thinking. We had written down anything we could think of.

In today's lesson we came up with a problem that our partner had during lunch. After we thought of problems, we had to come up with ideas for solutions. We used Divergent thinking skills to forulate as many ideas as we could, before we narrowed down to the best idea that we had.

In this lesson my group - Alan, Andy, Dinel we began to discuss the issue that we would be fixing. The issue that we're fixing is the lack of neighborhood communtity. This task requires us to use a lot of our Critical - Thinking skills, in order to analyse the issue that we are tackling and to come up with a reasonable solution for this problem

During the Spin Off Project I collaborated with two of my peers, Andy and Alan to design a product to combat lack of sense of community in neighborhoods. When Ms Fern posed a number of questions to us, this caused us some turmoil, as we were then required to use our critical-thinking skills to solve these questions. Reflectively, I realise that this turmoil was caused because we had not previously explored these new ideas, and we had reached the base of the mountain we were yet to climb. In the end, after we brainstormed some new ideas, there was more clarity

Group Members: Dom and Andy

Our problem for this task was - Female athletes are not receiving the pay that they deserve, despite the hard work and effort they put in.

This is a problem because,  we live in the modern world, it is 2021, and the fact that payment can be varied based on such a immature factor as gender is incredible. During research for the expo/pitch we found that the average salary for an NBA ( National Basketball Association) player is 4.7 million dollars,  in comparison to the 67 thousand dollars that WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) players make. This difference in wage is over 4 million dollars, for what!

A salary of only 67 thousand for an elite athlete is appalling, as in comparison the average salary for  a US citizen is 55 thousand dollars. An elite athlete who performs in front of thousands is earning the same amount as an average person, simply due to the fact that they are female.

Pitch Progress report 11/05/2021

The majority of our pitch has been completed and we are set to finish it in the immediate future. The basis of our idea is that we create a social media enterprise which will eventually evolve into a Television channel, where we promote female sports. Its name is SheSPN ( A play on the name of popular sports broadcaster ESPN)  By bringing attention to this issue we can slowly but surely eliminate the problem.

The pitch that we presented itself, was not too bad, however the feedback we received highlighted some issues that were present in the pitch. We did not completely explain how we were going to solve the underlying issue which was making people want to view women's sports. We included the consequence of people not watching women's sports however we did not exactly solve it. Some good feedback that we received was that our presentation was engaging and effective, however we should have tried to include the audience more, instead of simply putting the information in front of their faces. There were also some hiccups during the presentation, however with some effort and practice, these can be ironed out.

Amazing Race Activities

We completed some "amazing race activities", which consisted of three main tasks. We were told to brainstorm as many ways we could think of, about how to shave a monkey and how to paint an elephant, tasks which helped us grow our divergent and convergent thinking. The ways of thinking that will help you come up with any ideas you have and narrow them down to the reasonable ones. The final task we had to complete was the age old task of building the tallest tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows. This task required deep Critical thinking, as we had to consider how to create the most structurally sound tower whilst also conserving materials, skills that will likely needed to be used in real life industry level jobs.

Spin off brainstorming

We spent another lesson brainstorming ideas for our spin-off project as some of the ideas that we had previously came up with did not fit the required criteria. We also had to get come help from the teachers, who thankfully advised us on which ideas we should continue expanding on and which ideas would not bear valuable fruit.

Throughout the year, action project has been a challenging and intriguing subject to follow. It involves many necessary skills, such as critical thinking, communication, presentation skills.  Skills that you will need in real life, in the workplace, in university, in a business. This subject has brought to light how vast career paths can be, you do not need to become a doctor, you can create your own business, whether that means an e-commerce website or a coffee-grounds facial scrub store. There are many pathways in life that can lead to success, you just need to find the one that you are passionate about.

During the spin off task, we had to use our critical and creative mindsets to come up with a suitable idea, that would be appealing to potential investors and present it in a way that was appealing.

The skills that were learnt during this task can and will be implemented during other subjects and also not only during school but even in a potential workplace.

Communication, creative thinking, critical thinking, convergent and divergent thinking are all skills that had to be utilised during this project and these skills are very useful skills in an entrepreneurial type career.

Overall, this project has taught be some integral business skills that I will continue to use throughout the rest of my life.
