Having segregated schools? I feel that culture plays a huge role in our educated systems. Children segregated and being taught to only interact with a certain race of children will have its downfall. No matter how successful they are may be in the classroom. At the end of the day once that child finishes school and goes out into the world how will they interact with all other cultures put into their lives. We should keep schools open to all races, religion, and genders. Teachers need to not only teach whats in the textbooks, but have children in the classroom open their eyes to all those around them that may be different from them. There is always something someone can learn.

Category 1 focuses is more on the actual academic learning rather then their environmental. The reason you are in school is to get an education, but there is so much more to education then just whats written in textbooks.
Category 2. I feel like they are trying to work on the child's education by removing everything else out of their lives to solely focus on their studies. How do you take someones culture away from them? It’s who they are, it’s what makes them unique and special.
Category 3. I feel students cultures are really valued. They make the children feel special and important by not ignoring who they are or where they came from. They take time to learn everyones culture. To me this is the most effective way of having a successful child. A persons culture plays such a major role in a child's life. It is not something that can just be forgotten or taken away.

“Excellent teachers vs. Excellent teaching” (Ladson-Billings,G, The Dream-Keepers,14). Ask someone if they can remember a teacher who had a positive impact on their lives. They probably will not tell you what they learned in the text book 10 years ago, but the way they teacher "taught" them. How she/he made that student feel in the classroom feel. If a student feels important they will succeed in the classroom.

There all types of teachers in our schools. There will be teachers who really take time in learning the children in their classroom. Ones who want to help the child succeed and will take time to make sure it gets done. All the way down to the list of teachers who pass children along because they have had enough and do want to deal with another struggling students. We want to be teachers who want successful children in the classroom by making them feel like they are smart enough, making them feel important, and not any less then other children in the classroom.

This picture represents what should be in everyones mindset. We should all be united. There is so much that we can learn from each other, and it begins in the classroom. We all need to embrace who we are and be proud of it. I had a teacher once, and every child was given 1 week out of the school year to show the class all about themselves and their culture. They were able to bring in books, clothing items, music, food, and so on. It was such a great and positive environment. This is something I hope to incorporate into my classroom. Making each and every student feel excited and proud of who they are and where they came from.
