Why Hattie's research is dangerous in itself

It's often quite easy for my fellow TCs to understand how top-down prescription of HITS can be dangerous, but many of them still accept the broad validity of Visible Learning on the basis of there being many useful strategies on the magic list. It's quite a bit harder to argue that the philosophical approach that is taken is itself dangerous. E.g. many researchers have treated traditionally progressive modes of education (inquiry/project learning) and Hattie's focus on goals and visible outcomes as compatible in practice.

Yes good point. I think the only way is to show how Hattie totally misrepresents the research. We will attempt to do that using specific examples from feedback, self-report, welfare & class size. Hopefully that will cast significant doubt and lead teachers to question the whole methodology.

I am a primary language teacher whose school has appropriated HITS as one of their framework for Curriculum and pedagogy. HITS seems like a decent enough framework, but i'd like to hear some alternative viewpoints to Hattie and his HITS. This is also an opportunity to meet more teachers.
