" Ain't you Big Mav's Daughter who works in the store?" Pg: 8 line 25 to 26.

The people who live in her neighborhood and who knows her family only call her by Big Mav's Daughter who works in the store.

They do not recognize her by her name but her father's name. Like she does not exist as starr hersel  but someone's daughter.

Starr is with her half sister, Kenya, at a party in Garden Heights. Differently from most of the people in the party, Starr’s clothing is more basic. Kenya analyzes Starr’s outfit, thinking it looks strange. She seems to be self-conscious about her appearance, as she repeatedly refers to her clothing as “messy”. She has her hair in a ponytail, wears sneakers and an oversized hoodie she borrowed from her brother.

To demonstrate this point Starr friends wants invite Starr to intend the party, at the party most of them are white where she is the only Black girl. Been Black had affect her because no one welcomes her and that makes her feel lonley in this situation.

Starr does not like to go because of the discrimination that is  going on at the White parties.
