"The Golden Girls" is one of the greatest comedies of all time, with a star studded cast featuring Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty. The show did not follow the former societal norms of what women should be, as 3 of the main characters were widows, and the other a divorcée. The show won several awards and had very high rankings.

The virus increased due to the transmission of blood, semen, and anal fluids. Therefore, many considered the disease as the "gay plague". Gay men were often discriminated against and harmed because Americans were scared of the new uprise of HIV and AIDS that was occurring.

In order to increase the consumption of Coca-Cola around the world, the company started to make taste tests in order to find the best taste for everyone. The New Coke Failure happened as a result and many people started to speak out against the fact that Coke was being something they are not. Therefore, in 1985, a battle between Coke and Pepsi was established and Coke ended up outselling Pepsi by more than five to one.

Influence of Reagan's Administration (Final Paragraph)

In the 1980s, the greatest social and cultural event was the creation of Reaganomics. The Economic Tax Act of 1981 was used as a way for the nation to heal and gain economic support. The years previous to Reagan's presidency were challenged with a lot of inflation. The United States was experiencing stagflation and the economy was no longer growing. Therefore, Reagan came up with Reaganomics which essentially focused on the "trickle-down theory". Reagan as well as his administration wanted to lower the costs for corporations by cutting their taxes. Overall, the three central points for Reaganomics was to deregulate businesses, use private contractors, and decrease spending on social programs. As a result, Reagan signed two tax bills in law in 1981 and 1986. Overall, I think this influences people's memory of the Reagan administration because he brought the nation out of the recession in an effective way. Although there were a few Americans felt that Reaganomics was simply increasing the power for the rich, that does not take away the fact that many other people were benefited and positively impacted due to the decrease of inflation.

Drive-In movie theaters skyrocketed during after WWII, starting in the 1950s. With over 5,000 theaters being created, the drive-ins seemed to become an icon that most Americans favored. The American culture substantially increased the production of movies because more and more citizens wanted to be apart the weekend adventures at the theaters.
